NBA News / Harden #1 and Wade #25 in Top Guards« on: November 15, 2012, 02:32:23 PM »
Using the average fantasy points per game methodology from the NBA Futures scoring system, the best guard this season has been James Harden. He has benefited from a change of scenery that brought him a full-time starting role. It is early in the season so be warned about small sample sizes, but we are about 10% through and there are certainly some surprises. Who is most surprisng to you? Who do you expect to regress? Who do you expect to be on this list at the end of the year?

NFL News / Andrew Luck shows his legs« on: November 09, 2012, 12:49:10 PM »
The Colts are 6-3 due to strong play by rookie QB Andrew Luck who is now overshadowing the electric RG3. Last night, he scored two rushing TDs against the pathetic Jaguars. RG3 is impressive, but Luck has instantly turned the Colts around is leading the team to victory through the air and ground.

NBA News / Chris Paul Tops Dynasty Guard Rankings« on: October 26, 2012, 04:39:35 PM »
Who tops the dynasty rankings for guards? Well, the trade that sent Chris Paul from New Orleans to Los Angeles a year ago has given him security atop the list. Young guns Westbrook and Irving join him up top while Kobe still makes his presence known at #8.

NFL News / 5th Down: Week 7« on: October 18, 2012, 04:06:11 PM »
The 5th Down Blog is designed to help you, the fantasy owner, on whom to start, sit, and who we pick as a sleeper for the week. Each week, we will take turns doing a position for the week. Feedback is always welcome as we love to discuss football!
![]() Start Carson Palmer and the Raiders' passing attack? / Courtesy of USA Today Check out past postings of the 5th Down for each week: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 Quarterback - JMACisBACK Must Start: Andrew Luck ![]() ![]() Cleveland is anemic vs the pass this season, and Luck is coming off a horrible game. Look for Luck to bounce back with a 300 yard game and a couple scores. Must Sit: Russell Wilson ![]() ![]() Look for the Niners to get back to the basics on defense at home in a division game and really put pressure on young Wilson. This will be a good game but one that will rely heavy on the running game and defense. Sleeper: Carson Palmer :OAK-NFL: vs. ![]() He looks like a nice bye week fill in this week. I can see him flirting with 300 yards and a couple scores vs the lowly Jags defense. Running Back - Mike Must Start: Chris Johnson ![]() ![]() He's no longer an elite back, but he should be able to run wild this week, the Bills are dead last against the run, and if Johnson doesn't go for 125 and at least 1 TD.. it's time to cut him loose. (other must starts: Steven Ridley, Trent Richardson) Must Sit: Frank Gore ![]() ![]() Gore has been great this year, but the Seahawks are killing the run this year, he might do some damage catching passes, but look to play someone else if you can. (other must sits: Shonn Greene, Pierre Thomas) Sleeper: Doug Martin :TAM: vs ![]() This is two weeks in a row that Martin is listed as a sleeper. He hasn't really lived up to the hype as of yet, but look for him to get right against the Saints, who can't stop anyone. (other sleepers: Felix Jones, William Powell) Wide Receivers - ProFSL Must Start: Mike Williams :TAM: vs. ![]() Mike is the big target in Tampa and the Saints have allowed the third most fantasy points to WR this year. Williams is likely a fringe starter for you but you should plug him into your lineup this week. Must Sit: Michael Crabtree ![]() ![]() You may have some bye week blues, but if you are thinking about Crabtree versus a similar receiver then go with the other guy. This Mike hasn't exactly lit it up this year and the Seahawks play the tightest coverage on wideouts in the NFL. Sleeper: Donnie Avery ![]() ![]() The Browns have been mentioned as anemic. Their secondary has been a letdown since Haden got hurt. Avery caught four passes for 60 yards last week. Look for him to get 75-100 yards and perhaps a TD this week. He could be a great bye week fill-in for PPR leagues. Tight Ends - Philly Girl Must Start: Heath Miller ![]() ![]() Most of you are probably starting Miller by now. If you have lineups like mine then you may be deciding between him and Aaron Hernandez whose game day health appears to be back. Heath is having a great year. Keep plugging him in your lineup. Must Sit: Brandon Pettigrew ![]() ![]() You may not have a better option in free agency or on your bench, but the matchup doesn't look good for Lions' TEs this week. This will be a tough divisional game and Pettigrew's opportunities will be limited against the stingy Bears-D. Sleeper: Scott Chandler ![]() ![]() 2012 rule of thumb: Always play a team's starting tight end against the Titans. Tight ends score 80% more fantasy points when they are playing the Titans compared to any other team. Defense - ProFSL Must Start: Seattle ![]() ![]() We have a big-time NFC West matchup this week which should be a juicy low-scoring affair for both defenses. Don't be afraid of the 49ers and start the Seahawks. Must Sit: Indianapolis ![]() ![]() Just because the Colts are playing the Brownies doesn't mean you should start their defense. In a basic format like The Gridiron, Indy is ranked 30th across fantasy defenses. Don't be fooled by the matchup. Sleeper: Cincinnati ![]() The Bengals-D, believe it or not, leads the league in sacks with 21. The broken offensive line of the Steelers comes to town. Pittsburgh isn't look good lately which should mean opportunities for Cincy regardless of the outcome of the game. 199

Franchise GM: Archives / First sight of inflation in 2016« on: October 12, 2012, 03:43:21 PM »
I am working on the future salary caps right now. It appears that the first time we will see average salary caps increase from one year to the next is in 2016. The average caps are due to be $101.7m in 2015 and then increase to $101.9m in 2016. These figures aren't 100% certain as they will depend on 2013 and 2014 MLB payrolls, respectively.
Average Caps per Year 2009 = $108.3m 2010 = $108.7m 2011 = $105.8m 2012 = $104.2m 2013 = $102.9m 2014 = $102.5m 2015 = $101.7m 2016 = $101.9m Why have the caps been going down each year? Well, the caps were inflated to begin with... anyone who knows this league's history knows that the Cubs and Mets had $200m caps and the Yankees had $250m. The Red Sox, Tigers, and Angels all had $150m caps. Expected caps would take the distribution of current baseball payrolls which weren't quite like those numbers and this is how some teams, such as the Yankees despite winning, have regressed in payroll. Essentially, we are just catching up to reality. Consequently, 2016 is the first year the Yankees are expected to see an increase since 2013 (which is certain at $222m, $2.5m more than 2012). While I am looking at the numbers, which teams have increased their cap the most and which teams suffered? From 2009 to 2016 (projected at current standings/MLB-pay), the World Series winning A's have increased their cap from $70m to $115m. The Nationals are in 3rd, Marlins in 3rd (their cap was really low), Pirates in 4th, and Dodgers in 5th (dominating team past three years). The Cubs, Mets, Giants, Tigers, and Angels have all taken the biggest hits to their caps. What about what is set in stone such as 2014? ![]() ![]() :MIA-MLB: 21.0% ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Who has been the worst? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A lot of the drops have been due to regression, but the CUbs, Mets, Giants, Tigers, and Angels haven't been good teams. The Astros have seemingly surpassed expectations in recent years, but their cap in 2009 was $125m. They had a cap of $100m in 2010, so they have actually made progress. With all of that said, how have caps changed from 2010 to 2014 - the only time of certainty with our current salary cap structure? ![]() :MIA-MLB: 21.0% ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Biggest drops... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
