Flyers - Canucks Trade
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:48:00 PM »
The Flyers and Canucks agree to a deal:

Flyers send:
Nikolai Khabibulin, $1.7m (2013-2014)
Kevin Porter, $0.2m (2012-2013)
Chris Phillips, $0.8m (2012-2013)

for

Ryan Kesler, $5.0m (2015-2016)

I did this deal to acquire another C.  I know everyone is going to say Khabibulin is old but he is still the starter (after he gets out of jail) and he is signed to a great contract for a goalie.  Goalies are high value in this league and I give up an up and coming center in Porter and a good D.  I was able to add a little salary after my last deal so I can take on Kesler's contract.  This is a good deal for both as it fits needs for both teams.

Thanks Corey for the negotiations!

Im learning this hockey stuff, so thanks for the patience Papps. The canucks accept. From all information I could gather bulin is still the starter. Porter isnt a bad addition as well.

the Canucks confirm.

:iatp:  I guess this trade is a good one for me to see. As far as I am aware the TC is supposed to stop trades where they are way too off, of there is collusion. I don't think we are here to save GM's from themselves. Kesler is extremely undervalued, but I don't see a reason not to put the trade through...Gilly maybe you can clarify but to me we are not here to stop GM's from making bad trades?

rek and red both make great pts... Im interested in seeing how the commissioners rule especially given past vetos of carey price deals where perceived value for the goalie were deemed insufficient vs this deal where the forward is deemed more valuable than the package.

tough job for TC no doubt because subjectivity is not always easy to explain.

As it stands

Reket - No
Redlight - Still to Vote
Fantasy Nightmares - Yes
Joeshmore - Still To Vote
Drew - Still To Vote
Papps - Can't Vote (Involved In Trade)

Hockeyfreak6000 & Gilly - Vote if needed to break a tie or if trade is on the board to long and a final verdict is needed.

Here is what the trade committee is responsible for,

These members are the active trade committee. They are responsible for approving trades.
Takes 3 approvals for the trade to be confirmed.
They are also responsible for:
- Commenting on trades
- Deciding who won/who lost
- The fairness of the trade
- Whether the trade was legit or set up
- Whether the trade would be a detriment to that franchise or the league.

We have a trade committee picked for a reason, they are knowledgeable hockey fanatics that were hand picked because of there knowledge.  There final judgement is approved and supported 100% by both myself and Hockeyfreak6000.

One another note, Fantasy Nightmares if you could expand a bit more why you approve on this trade, that would be fantastic :)

Thanks guys,

Mike (Gilly)

I don't understand why this trade is such a debate.  There is nothing wrong with it.  It fits needs of both teams.  Looking at the contracts goalies are getting Khabibulin is a steal.  Yes he is old, but he is still the starter and is still productive.  Goalies are worth a lot more in this league than other positions.  The teams with no goalies I'm sure would gladly trade a good center to get a goalie.  Adding up the points of the players involved is fair.  Whether or not we think someone could have gotten more or not is a matter of opinion.  We all value players differently.  There is no cheating here, nobody is ripping anybody off, and it fits needs of our teams.  I am part of the TC as well and this is how I look at everyone else's trades.  There is no problem with thinking one team may have gotten better of the deal than the other.  Thats whats great about the sport, we all value everyone's opinion.  What if Kesler gets hurt?  Who gets the bad end then?  Its a chance.  Corey has 1 goalie, 3 defenseman, and 4 centers.  He gets a starting goalie, another D, and a C to plug in his lineup.  And he saves some extra money to sign more FA's or make other trades.

I respect the TC but this is not a trade that should be debated in my opinion.

I am voting to approve this trade, I do think its onesided but I don't see it as an extreme detriment to the point I would vote against.
