Wellllllllllllllll, I did this to Land Niemi & Marleau....Cory is still sharing time with Luo in Vancouver and I have zero patience to wait out when Cory will be the OFFICIAL number 1 guy....he also needs an extension at the end of next year where as Niemi is good for 2 more years at $3.8m......I love me some Marleau, I need LW help and he fills that void...I have a bit of cap lol so I can afford to sign some of those RFA`s if I want....I hate moving Purcell and my good pick but u gotta pay to play baby....I do have another First rounder left so im still rocking a good pick!!

And yes before anyone ask's the worst part of the deal for me here was losing Rattie, Im fully aware of his greatness, but theres been plenty of great junior guys who sucked the big back side when they got to the big show and plenty who did amazing, its sometimes a coin flip even with great young guys....like Yaku, RNH,  and others who struggle to give what there expected to give!!

Uh, well.... Didn't really plan on trading the #1 goalie in this league last year and #7 the year before. Especially on Day 1, not even 24 hours into this GM job.

BUT, needed the Niemi/Schnieder swap to get the deal done.

He wanted Marleau, was willing to part with picks/young players.
Niemi entered, and so did a heck of a lot of other things.

We settled on this.

I'm leaning towards a re-build and youth movement. This does it.
Marleau is a 30-40 goal man which in this league is huge. He was my #1 player the last 3 years before this shortened season, and by a long shot.... goals are worth 4 points so he becomes that much more valuable.

As Gilly said, Schnieds is sharing the net with Lou still. Canucks GM Mike Gillis is a bonehead, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Lou in a Canucks uni next season as sad as that is. Heck, he couldn't even get a team to give them two 2nd round draft picks for Luongo at the trade deadline, they'll have to give him away for free if they want to trade him.

Gilly's going for it so he can't wait for that goalie controversy to settle. I can.

Also, in the end I probably drop 2 of the 4 prospects I got, as I have a lot of draft picks in the coming rookie draft.

Anyways, I save some cap here too. Might not seem like I need to but I have some re-signing to do, starting with Stepan at $7m per year

Monster Deal!  I actually like the deal for both sides.  I understand youth usually outweighs veterans in fantasy sports, but Gilly is going for the win now.  I like the move for both squads, and both owners are new, so hopefully they are happier with some of the guys they got!

I think this is good for both teams.  Despite Vancouver's poor performance last season due mostly to neglect by their prior GM, they are actually pretty close to competing for a cup.  If that team had more TLC from its GM from the start they'd be a front-runner for sure.  I think this puts Gilly in a great position for next season.  I do think Rattie is tough to deal but Gilly's right in that you never know how good junior players are going to translate to the NHL.  That's the same reason I gave him to Vancouver in the first place to land Sedin.  On the other side, this is exactly the kind of deal I expected to see the Sharks make.  They have some good top end talent but no depth and only 11 players that aren't RFA's... So they needed to move some cap and get younger.  The great thing about Niemi being signed for 2 years is that he can only get cheaper to extend since the #1 rank won't be considered when he's a RFA.  Good stuff!

I would not approve this trade if we were drafting all players but since we only get to draft from a limited amount of draftees this 3rd overall pick loses a bit of its value and makes the trade much closer.

Personally long term Schneider is the better goalie but Niemi could be the right addition short term.
