Tim Connolly, $4.7m (2012-2013)

Buffalo gets

Dany Heatley, $7.5m (2013-2014)

I am in need of a RW and have high hopes that Heatley may return to form this year. I also like his upside more than Antropov and Connolly and San Jose needs centers. I also gain cap space to help me in FA.

San Jose confirms this deal. We put a For Trade sign on Heatley and Mariner came knocking with the right package of Centers as we asked for. The risk of taking on Glass Tim is somewhat outweighed by his potential scoring upside if the Leafs have a good season, big IF. Losing Dany hurts but we will survive.

I veto the trade based on the fact that it will put San Jose over the cap limit. According to SizzRat, teams must be cap compliant by 8/4, the start of the new league year.

Some important updates for you to be aware of...

3.) The new league year will begin at 12am on 8/4/2012. You have until then to re-sign all your expiring contracts. Any player not signed by then will become an unrestricted free agent. Please note that during the offseason, I am allowing each team to be over their roster limit by 5 players (Max 35), and to go over the salary cap by ten percent (Max $77.3). Just make sure you correct any overages by 12am on 8/4 or you will face penalties (loss of draft picks and/or salary cap space)

San Jose has cleared an additional 1.1m to go with our current available cap of 0.5m for a total of 1.6m in available cap space.

We signed Brunette, LW to an extension that reduced his annual cap hit from 2.0m to 0.9m.
With this deal, we add an additional 1.3m in salary cap.
Sharks have 1.6m in cap space. 
We will be left with 0.3m once this deal goes through.   

Sharks are ready to move forward with this trade with the Buffalo Sabres.

In addition to the cap space we've calculated above we have a buy out player with open FA bids that will give us a little more cap space in the next few days when bidding closes. Currently we expect to get 0.4m refunded and counting. So feel free to bid on Jamie Langenbrunner everyone.

since that flag was first posted, SJ has posted a transaction to remedy the issue and has available cap it appears.



win to for getting the better player while isn't really getting stud quality in return but the 2 players are serviceable. moving Heatley isn't completely detrimental to SJ as they have a pretty full roster and a good core of prospects.

Now that the Sharks have proper cap space, 

Buffalo wins this, but if Connelly can stay healthy and find some chemistry, he might be worth his currently overpriced contract.
