Sens and Devils reach a deal

Ottawa announces a trade with jackdaniels's Devils.

We approached the Devils and a few other teams about moving young prospect defensemen Scandella and Wiercioch as we were looking to make room for newly acquired free agent defenseman Adam McQuaid. Devils were the only team to reply and we quickly expanded the deal to address team needs on both sides.

The keys to this trade are Timonen, Wedgewood leaving Ottawa and Stalberg, Nikitin moved by Jersey.

My Sens gain some roster space by making this trade while Jersey adds some players and cap to reach the floor. The Devils are in rebuilding mode while my Sens are looking to contend this season.

thought the sens were moving scrubs but looked into the wier... + scand... and they're both decent prospects with good clubs known for pumpin' out young players. the other recognizable names seems to balance out.

still a conditional "Yes", pending confirmation.

confirms. I like this deal because it nets my team a great goalie prospect that belongs in the Devils system anyway. Wedgewood should be great in another year. Timo is on the top PP in Philly and might qualify for a cheaper extension. Scandella has some nice upside. We'll sit on Razor and see if he comes back to the big league.

I noticed Hockeyfreak6000, Hockeyfreak47, Drew, and Izaman3 have been active with FA bidding but no votes on this trade either for or against. Haven't heard from papps nor joeshmoe.

I was waiting NJ's approval, which didn't come until last night.

Ottawa gets cap space, a good young d-man, and a winger who could continue to get better or could plateau immediately. Not to mention a goalie now on a team with 4 goalies, and no true #1.

NJ gets Timonen, who despite his age and cap, will have to play a huge role in Philly this year. Scandella will learn a lot from having Suter around. Wiercioch and Wedgewood are good prospects for will make up for Timonen if he retires before next season or NJ doesn't extend. Wedgewood make even be a future #1, only if Brodeur doesn't play until he is 70. Raycroft is a wild card now playing overseas. But I still say he's more valuable than McElhinney, especially if he comes back to the NHL next season.

Its a fair trade, Ottawa wins now, but NJ will probably end up winning this in the future.

New Jersey wins easily by acquiring one of the top goaltending prospects for peanuts. They take on a big contract in Timonen but don't lose much if Nikitin doesn't produce fantasy wise.
