Gusev is a lottery ticket but who knows whether or not he ever plays in the NHL. Ryan will be a cheap depth player once his extension kicks in

Bobby Ryan is a name but if you look at the stats the last couple of years that's all he is. I gave up Gusev who one of the KHL leading scorers and is rumored to be coming to the NHL next year.

There's nothing "going on" here. I've made lots of trades similar to this one and actually acquired Ryan from Toronto for a third round pick last year.  Colorado has better team than Carolina at this point so I can't think of a reason why the would weaken themselves to help me out.
