The reorganization and restructuring of our franchise continues with a trade that addresses both our present and future outlook.

Vegas completes a deal with the New York Rangers to acquire a package of draft picks including a 1st Rounder, a pair of prospects with potential to possibly step into new roles in the NHL soon and the next starting goaltender of an NHL team in need, 26yo Philipp Grubauer.

Rangers confirm. This deal had me over thinking long and hard whether Grubauer would or not turn into a starter in 2018-19. He's at the end of his bridge deal at 1.5m and outplayed Holtby down the stretch. He's an RFA this summer. Smith, well he's 36 and was afterall part of the collapse in Calgary this yr but I own his understudy Jon Gillies so I figure let's go for it!

Hi Pigsrule. How are things? Yes. I understand the scoring system in this league and how goaltenders have a higher value than forwards and defensemen. For this trade I value the 26yo Grubauer (RFA this Summer) over the 36yo Mike Smith (had the Flames in a playoff spot then lost it or put another way could not help turn it around for them and lost the playoff spot down the stretch). There is also a certain amount of calculated risk involved in this trade as is the case with most transactions of this nature if I'm not mistaken. Thanks again for checking.
