Philly - Colorado MEGA DEAL
« on: July 22, 2015, 03:56:41 PM »
:PHI-NHL: gets
C Sidney Crosby, $7.7m (2017-2018)
C Evgeni Malkin, $5.8m (2018-2019)
RW Corey Perry, $4.3m (2016-2017)

:COL-NHL: gets
G Petr Mrazek, $0.2m (P-17/18)
C Sam Reinhart, $0.2m (P-n/a)
D Aaron Ekblad, $0.2m (P-16/17)
BOS 2016 1st round pick

Monster deal for our teams!  I made the decision to rebuild last year but my patience became a little thin and I want to be more competitive now.  I get three great players still in their prime while dealing tons of young talent.  I feel like once I land a goalie to replace Mrazek I will be able to compete.  I still have lots of young guys like Barkov, Ehlers, and Dal Colle along with some good young D.  I feel this deal give me a good mix of talent now and in the future.

Thanks snug for the awesome negotiations.  I'll be back in touch soon to get Ekblad back from you LOL!!  :toast:

After I said yes to this deal, I have since puked, pissed myself and then crapped my pants, than I recomposed myself and said hey,,, yes I traded away the last 10 years great talents of the NHL but I feel like I have gained the next 10 years of great talent.. Then I crapped my pants again( I ate jalapenos) Then Gieko called and told me I saved a ton on salaries.  I felt better about things after that.

Wow... Looks like the Avs are getting hosed to me!  Haha.  But I trust Jared more than most others to run a good team.

I probably am for the first 3 years.  Ekblad was a stud last year as a 19 yr old dman.  Reinhart will be playing with Eichel which I am envisioning a toews/kane duo and mrazek is only 24 and will be taking over as #1 goalie in detroit you can bank that..

With the cap (17 million) I have saved, you can add in another 2-3, 4 good 2.5 -3pts per game players.  It will be more like a 6 players for 3 deal when I am done what I am doing...

Which team?  Getting more somewhere else should not be a basis for a veto. I can say more could have been got for most trades.

Just thinking about this one is giving me anxiety.  As the famous quote about marriages puts it, I think this trade is a triumph of hope over experience.  But, I don't feel strongly enough to make scene in the wedding chapel.

I think this looks like is a major overpayment by Colorado

The deal is 3 top tier scorers/point-getters for a future #1 G, future stud #1 D, future top 6 scorer, a potential good prospect, and a boatload of cap space. Ekblad and Mrazek did have pretty good years and should only get better. Everyone coming from Colorado is in their prime and Perry is the oldest player at 30. I think its hard to imagine giving up all 3 of those all-stars at the same time for essentially futures. If Mrazek takes over as starter this year, the deal becomes a lot better for Snug, but I don't know that will happen.

Colorado will have a ton of cap space, but so do a lot of other teams and I think the FA market is pretty thin. The market was pretty thin last year too and I signed Shane Doan for a big $5m a year contract...100 year old Doan. I don't know how many players Snug expects to snatch in FA vs how many he actually will.

Maybe Colorado will be a quick retool like Florida was, remember when Florida was entirely kids and now their team scares me to death. I think the #1 underestimated thing about this deal is that Colorado is getting 3, potential 4 players that will qualify for a prospect extension discount. 30% off the contracts of future stars for 5 years...That's a big bonus.

Both Papps and Snug are saavy owners and know what kind of team that want to build. I approve this trade, but it was hard for me.

Could Colorado have gotten more? Probably. Not the point here. If Colorado is going to move into a rebuild phase, then I think this deal is a win for them. Most of the league probably won't agree, but it is Jared's team to run. I only ever veto if I feel it hurts the balance of the league, and I don't think this trade is that unfair.

  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
