He's getting a goaltender in return who will be playing in front of a hungry/healthy Avs team next season and 2 good young players and a #1 overall pick. Yes he's trading away a great RW, but using the fact that Brodeur is the best is refering to the PAST, not present. You on the other hand are trading away ONE good player for 3 good players and a pick. How are they even close?

I am not changing my stance I believe this will not only hurt Dallas and help Edmonton a lot but it will raise the price of every player in the league

First Elliot needs a contract before he will be playing for any team and will not be a start, Budaj will be starting in COL. A 1st round pick not #1 overall and it is under top 10. Broduer is under contract and will be playing in front of a stronger Devils team

In fact Budaj is a FA this year and Elliot is a RFA maybe if Edmonton gave his 1st round (9th overall) it might be a little closer to fair

I did not know it was a typo. I still don't see that trade as fair and it was probably more of a detriment to the VAN franchise then this trade in question. If you still wish to re-sign that is alright, I respect your decision. I just think DAL is doing a good job and if this trade doesn't go through for them they will have no chance for them to compete. How is their LW going to compete?

I see as more fair, he loses the 2nd round pick, and dallas gets a 3rd round pick.

Omark, Gagne and Plek are all decent players and just for Vanek seems a bit much but considering that if he gets Vanek he only has to have one player taking up one active spot instead of 3 players where you might then have to sit someone because your positions are full is also something you have to take into account. Still a bit one sided but a lot less now.

Also I thought the other trade was a little lopsided also but with Broduer retiring soon, them getting Paarvi or however you spell it and a 1st round pick + vincoun and elliot just made me see that Gilly is building for next year where as other teams might be building for the next couple of years and this trade just looks like that also, trading some prospects/decent young players for a proven top line player. We know Vanek will have a good 70ish point season again next year and play on the top line but with Omark and Gagne and all of the young talent on Edm who knows if they will play well or even be on the top line/s. Plekanec is a good player and him alone for Vanek would have been a fair deal when you think about the cap etc but Plekanec/Omark for Vanek would have been a good deal as well and Gagne for 3rd round is all that's left and while it does seem a little lop sided Gilly moves some cap gets a draft pick and gets a proven player. I'm alright with the deal the way it is now.
