Fran NHL - Power Rankings 2010-2011
« on: October 25, 2010, 04:48:12 PM »
Week 4 Power Rankings

1) :DAL-NHL: – After a strong start to the season, another win keeps them at first.  Four skaters in the top 10!
2) :NYR: – Big points this week.
3) :BUF-NHL: – Buffalo continues to pick up steam.
4) :DET-NHL: – This team is loaded, will the new ownership take advantage of the talent?
5) :PHO: – Solid young roster, playing hard and winning easy games.
6) :CLG: – 130 points in week 3, what?  Will they stay hot?
7) :CHI-NHL: – Underperforming squad could easily gain stock.
8) :BOS-NHL: – Power score in the first week of a set roster, jury’s still out.
9) :PIT-NHL: – Star studded lineup with Crosby and Malkin, looks like they could be good.
10) :CAR-NHL: – Bounce back from a terrible week 2 was necessary.
11) :WAS-NHL:  – Tough week for Ovie and the caps against the (real) Bruins hurts Corey’s squad this week.
12) :OTT: – Scoring woes make me think this team is middle of the road.  Weakest of the un-beatens.
13) :TBL: – Watch out for this Lightning squad.
14) :TOR-NHL: – Lack of scoring power in week 3 hurts the Leafs.
15) :MON-NHL: – Canadiens just haven’t hit stride yet.
16) :CLS: – Surprising team, lets see how long it lasts.
17) :PHI-NHL: – Weak scores thus far = low ranking.
18) :VAN: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
19) :COL-NHL: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
20) :SJ: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
21) :EDM: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
22) :LA: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
23) :ANA: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
24) :NJD: – Powerful team that wasn’t set up for the week.
25) :ATL-NHL: – Bottom feeder for now.
26) :MIN-NHL: – Bottom feeder for now.
27) :NAS: – Bottom feeder for now.
28) :STL-NHL: – Bottom feeder for now.
29) :NYI: – Bottom feeder for now.
30) :FLO: – Bottom feeder for now.

Week 5 Power Rankings

1) :DAL-NHL: – This team keeps on winning, and got lucky against the Panthers. [-]
2) :DET-NHL: – The weaker of the two unbeatens, 1 and 1A. [+2]
3) :CHI-NHL: – Roster full of producers keeps this team moving forward. [+4]
4) :NYR: – Can this offense be sustained? [-2]
5) :BOS-NHL: – As Thomas goes so do the Bruins? [+3]
6) :PIT-NHL: – Penguins are still underperforming. [+3]
7) :PHI-NHL: – Flyers put up big points, ranking goes up. [+10]
8) :MON-NHL: – Solid scores week in and week out. [+7]
9) :WAS-NHL:  – Ovechkin is carrying this team. [+2]
10) :BUF-NHL: – Nobody is helping this team, will the fall continue. [-7]
11) :CLG: – 103 points one week, 8 the next.  Who saw that coming? [-5]
12) :TOR-NHL: – They can score more than 11 points in a week, but not much more.  Where’s Phil? [+3]
13) :CAR-NHL: – Week after week this team is off-again/on-again.  No consistency. [-3]
14) :OTT: – Nobody is scoring any points for the Sens. [-2]
15) :PHO: – Lowest point total for a 3 win team.  Are they a mirage?  [-10]
16) :TBL: – Ran into Philly and got hurt.  Stamkos for early season MVP. [-3]
17) :EDM: – 88 points in week 4 makes me a believer.  [+4]
18) :LA: – This team is strong, can Kopitar be a 2points per game guy?  I love Quick. [+5]
19) :COL-NHL: – Week 4 proves something; when this team is active it will be tough to beat. [-]
20) :SJ: – Thornton, Heatley, Marleau, Clowe…who else?  They need someone to step-up. [-]
21) :VAN: – When will this team hit its stride?  It has the talent level. [-3]
22) :STL-NHL: – No superstar but a couple of nice forwards, good pieces. [+6]
23) :ATL-NHL: – Under new ownership things might be going in the right direction.  [+2]
24) :ANA: – Good week, tough opponent.  I expect them to move up. [-1]
25) :MIN-NHL: – 29 points a week could get this team into top 20. [+1]
26) :CLS: – Who will carry the load? [-10]
27) :FLO: – At least they’re scoring points in the positive direction. [+3]
28) :NAS: – Hard to win when no one is producing points; week 4 total = -15.  Better off starting nobody. [-1]
29) :NJD: – Devils need a bounce back week in week 5.  Should be better than this. [-6]
30) :NYI: – -33 points through four weeks?  This team is staying here for a while. [-1]

I realize some teams made dramatic moves in the rankings.  It should level off as weeks go by.  I feel this is accurate though.  Enjoy!

The talent level and the ability to break out at anytime is serious with the Pens.  They could easily go up, down, or nowhere.  Tricky to judge them this season.  But a solid season thus far.

Week 6 Power Rankings

1) :DAL-NHL: – Even when they score low they still win. [-]
2) :DET-NHL: – Just waiting for Dallas to lose.[-]
3) :CHI-NHL: – Steady team keeps on winning. [-]
4) :NYR: – 212 points through 5 weeks is a good total and bodes well. [-]
5) :BOS-NHL: – A win but not a really pretty one.  Will they stay in the top 5 for next week? [-]
6) :PHI-NHL: – Great performance in week 5.  This team could be in it for the long haul. [+1]
7) :CAR-NHL: – Good bounce-back win, 63+ points. [+6]
8) :OTT: – This team is looking to back up its record. [+6]
9) :WAS-NHL:  – This team is rounding out, but the goaltending could be a let down. [-]
10) :LA: – Justin Williams is a scoring machine.  Quick is averaging 78ppg. [+8]
11) :PIT-NHL: – Tough loss last week, but I’m still not ready to call them out as a bad team. [-5]
12) :PHO: – This team beats average teams and loses to good ones. [+3]
13) :COL-NHL: – Powerhouse team, record is worse than their performance. [+6]
14) :TOR-NHL: – Mediocre goaltending is holding this team back.  Not one scorer over 2ppg. [-2]
15) :MON-NHL: – Can’t expect 16 points to beat the #1 team.[-7]
16) :BUF-NHL: – The fall is on .[-6]
17) :CLS: – Headed in a very good direction.  Nice win against Toronto. [+9]
18) :MIN-NHL: – dross1 has made a lot of moves, and in his first week doused the Capitals.  I think this team is turning around. [+7]
19) :EDM: –  Nobody is scoring outstanding points.  Might be a .500 club.[-1]
20) :VAN: – Here comes Jake.  A late start to the season and poor points in week four have him at a bad record.  89 points in week 5! [+1]
21) :CLG: –  I don’t think this team can break 100points again. [-10]
22) :ANA: – Headed in the right direction: [+2]
23) :ATL-NHL: – I thought this team was moving forward but I’m not sure anymore.  Lets wait and see. [-]
24) :TBL: – Any week scoring (-) points will move a team down in the rankings. [-8]
25) :FLO: – Are starting to look good. [+1]
26) :SJ: – Lots of star talent that isn’t making this team win.  Rebuilding phase beginning soon?[-6]
27) :STL-NHL: – I only put these guys here because of the record.  Best of the winless. [-5]
28) :NJD: – Moving up due to terrible Nashville and Islanders teams.  Not based upon own merit. [+1]
29) :NAS: – Not sure what to say about the Preds.  They’ve gotten me confused. [-1]
30) :NYI: – Almost as many points in the negative last week (-22) as they were all season up to that point (-33).  Sit everyone! [-]

Week 7 Power Rankings

1) :DET-NHL: – Lots of stars, great goaltending.[+1]
2) :NYR: – Nice win over the #1 team.[+2]
3) :CHI-NHL: – 36pts in week 6 could have easily been a loss. [-]
4) :PHI-NHL: – 286 points in the past three weeks, more than most teams all season[+1]
5) :BOS-NHL: – A win last week, but I don’t think they can beat NYR, DET, or PHI.[-]
6) :WAS-NHL:  – Any team with Ovie and Backstrom will score a lot of points, every week. [+3]
7) :DAL-NHL: – I wasn’t really sold on them being #1.  How long will they be top 10? [-6]
8) :OTT: – A team that just wont go away.  Played well evening a loss to the Coyotes, 77-57.[+6]
9) :PIT-NHL: – Eeeked out a win, Penguins are a contending team.  Really could use a lot of points from expensive stars.[+2]
10) :LA: – I LOVE QUICK, #4 goalie in the league right now.  Four scores with 30+ points.  Fighting to move up.[-]
11) :PHO: – Not a lot of scoring from the skaters, and the goalie isn’t helping them win.  Still a nice victory in week 6![+1]
12) :MON-NHL: – 3 wins and a shutout for Price in week 6, no wonder they scored 93 points. [+3]
13) :CAR-NHL: – This team was overrated last week.  They’re like a rollercoaster, up and down, up and down.[-6]
14) :VAN: – I said it last week, I’ll say it again, “Here comes Jake”.[+6]
15) :BUF-NHL: – When I thought the team was done they bounce back.  Not a stellar victory but a win never-the-less.[+1]
16) :COL-NHL: – A win with 16 points should be a loss. [-3]
17) :TOR-NHL: – Phil Kessel, -1pt in week 6.  Beauchemin and Carlson look to be a top Dline pairing. [-3]
18) :CLS: 40 points in a week isn't terrible, I still have faith in Columbus. – [-1]
19) :ANA: – Lead all scores with 110.  Somebody must have reminded them the season started. [+3]
20) :ATL-NHL: – Quietly this team is moving in the right direction. [+3]
21) :MIN-NHL: – I want to see this team score consistently. [-3]
22) :EDM: – Least points scored in week 6, -28. [-3]
23) :CLG: – Almost beat Pittsburgh, instead it was the 3rd loss in a row! [-2]
24) :FLO: – Another win!  Tied for 7th with 8 points.  A win this week and I’ll do it, Florida will be in the top 20. [+1]
25) :SJ: – Well the pieces are there, just not clicking at the same time. [+1]
26) :TBL: – Stamkos, St. Louis and nobody.  Only two skaters with 1+ ppg. [-2]
27) :NJD: – Not enough starters for the entire roster, still put up decent numbers.[+1]
28) :NAS: – Breaking the +20 point barrier, oolala.[+1]
29) :STL-NHL: – After touting the roster as deep they come out and stink.  14 Goals allowed by Conklin and Halak.  And their skaters didn’t rescue the ship.[-2]
30) :NYI: – They scored (+) points.[-]
