13/14 Prognosticator Thread
« on: September 16, 2013, 05:50:34 PM »
Here's my projected top 5:

5) :PHI-NHL:  I see Philly making a nice run this year.  The addition of Neal really puts them over the top for me.  Nice work on this roster papps!

4) :PIT-NHL: Since taking over his beloved Penguins, Dave has overhauled this roster and I think he's got a great chance at taking the title this year.  There's no one superstar on this roster that raises my eyebrows other than Sedin but they're very deep.

3) :CHI-NHL:  The defending champs are fielding another roster worthy of a cup run.

2) :DET-NHL:  Ian's been a top scoring team since we started and I expect he'll be right up there once again.  The Wings have had terrible matchup luck in the past but I think they've been the best overall team in our league history.

1)  :STL-NHL:  Surprised?  I'm not.  Bob is a fantasy master, IMO.  If I had to put my money on someone to take the cup it would be him.  I do actually have my money on him, in baseball (Moneyball).

That's how I see it at this point.  What do you think?

My B's are 7th or 8th according to my metrics.  Though I fully intend on taking home the cup.  ;)

The thing is, I really only base this on the best 15 or so players on each team.  Depth isn't factored in.  In this league depth is really important so my rankings are lacking in that regard.  But I'm assuming that if your top 15 players are better than other teams', if you're a good manager you can make it work...

You might be surprised that you aren't ranked last!

How is :FLO: NOT last.... Let's be honest here.
I'm not sure I will have 15 NHL'ers by opening day, haha, so if you're ranking on top 15, well, we have a problem!

But I hope to be on top of this list in 3 years time. Until then, well, just keep bringing the cap down so I can dish out cash to teams in need and cash in on their good prospects :)

I think a $64.3m cap would work nicely  Haha.

You have about 14-15 guys that will score points in the NHL this year.

And that's the thing.  After 15 you have nothing else, whereas the TWO teams that ranked below you have full rosters of NHL players.

That's some pretty high praise Rob. I'm really excited for the season to get started. The Wings have had their quietest off-season since this league started, but I'm hoping my guys keep producing. Bring on those tough match-ups! Detroit is used to it and we're here to win!

Good luck to everyone this year  :toast:

Oh yeah, I forgot that I own Cal Clutterbuck.
He's like 3 players, the amount he hits! ... Maybe he'll play with Moulson & Tavares.

He's on a nice affordable contract too :)

  • Daddy: Honestly idk why the NBA doesn't do it that way for expanding. Two teams at a time. Expansion draft to amateur draft. I think the idea is fresh and its execution will be pretty dope. ;)
  • jimw: I think the NBA goes one team at a time to give the one team a better talent pool in the expansion draft and also to keep the teams from complaining about losing more players
    Today at 01:25:47 AM
  • Daddy: Thats fair
  • BayAreaBallers: that makes sense
  • Daddy: I mean they only losing one guy anyway tho. We expose 10 players, protect 5 players, each team, all 30 will lose one player.
  • Daddy: The expansion teams will then both have 15 players heading into the amateur draft with picks #1 & #2.
  • Daddy: Each other team will still have 14 players and one first round pick.
  • Daddy: They need to hire me is what they need to do
  • Daddy: Yeah you lose a guy to the expansion draft. Likely your 6th man. Then the very next day you draft his replacement and keep it moving.

  • jimw: I think in the Bobcat expansion each team could protect 8 players. And I think the bobcats has to take at least 14 so half the league didn't even lose a player.
