LW/RW Evgeny Svechnikov, $0.5m (R)
G Mads Sogaard, $0.6m (R)

Was in market for goalie so adding proven vet in Varlamov fits the need. With cap cruntch after couple expensive wingers being resigned I may be forced to let Andersen hit FA and don't love paying him 7m based on 2019-20 ranking.

Moving Sogaard who I am pretty high on and a couple wingers who showed flashes of potential this past year, but figured I'd need to move some upside to get a proven goalie.

Deal puts me slightly over cap, got a few moves in mind will post seperately.

:TOR-NHL: Leafs have 2 off season priorities somewhat hand in hand:

1. Clearing cap
2. Getting a starting goalie (unsure if I will resign Andersen plus need cap room if I do go this route)

I'm comfortable running back mainly same group but several guys available. In particular, I think the most logical direction is to move Duchene for cap saving:

C/RW Matt Duchene, $8.0m (2025-2026)

Disappointing season plus injured for a large chunk, but I can see him being much better.

Yes, we are going 3 years max on picks and this will get update in rules.

With this said, because it was not actually stated in rules at the time of this trade, the comish office will allow this deal as a 1 time exception on the 2024 pick.

However, we are adding 1 small caveat: on the chance Whitesox have a new owner in 2024 this pick will revert back to them.

As long as both teams are good with above we have no issue with deal.

  • Jwalkerjr88: Idk if anyone remembers the 2021 class but it was weak on offense outside or the top 10-15. I dont regret the deal just learned and move on. As long as you have assets, you can mold your build how you want. Picks are usually the most valuable asset because most gms want in on a draft.
