more insight on why
should make this deal...
Here are your Facts!*Stewart is a point producing player at the scarce RW position... he had 1 off yr at age 25 i'd say there's still plenty of upside + Hitch is a great teacher in St.Louis
*FNHL's Calgary needs RW's (dealing a LW to pick up a Righty)
* Stewart's contract VS Max-Pac... listen, double, sure but also productive whereas Max is out a few wks -
then in 2013-14, when both players are up for extensions guess what folks - their contracts will be the same in 7mths.
*Flames also need a top Goalie prospect, they get one in this deal with Finn Sami Aittokallio
*prospect defensemen... uh, aside from Dougie Hamilton + Drew Doughty how long does the typical Dman take to arrive in the NHL? like 4-7yrs after junior hky. then factor in Xavier Ouellet (2nd rd 48th overall 2011) is in the Detroit Red Wings' system... add another 2yrs ... remember
Brendan Smith, DET 1st rd 27th overall in 2007!!! *Saad is a slow footed "apparent/maybe power forward" for the Hawks - one who doesn;'t like contact, how many does that team already have in the system??? he'll be boom or bust... i say bust given he's being rushed to the NHL.
final thought: as for this deal hurting Calgary... the GM abandoning it hurt more. this trade is to help Calgary fight for a playoff spot by getting production at the thin RW spot using a LW'er that's on the IR for 1-mth + plug gaps in the MiLR at the critical Goalie position.
