to CI Wigginton, Ty, $3m (2010)RP Thornton, Matt, $1m (2011)P Robertson, David, $0.5m (P-2012) to C-CI Walker, Neil, $0.5m (P-n/a)RP Casilla, Santiago, $0.5m (P-2010)RP Gray, Jeff, $0.5m (P-n/a)6-4 PIT7-4 PITColby came to me with this deal last week, and we were finally able to come to an agreement on pick compensation. My team is not competing this year, and he needed a flexible position player such as Wigginton and wanted to improve the bullpen. In return, I pick up a few prospects (Walker being the most intriguing) and decent mid-round picks.
I viewed this trade this afternoon and thought the same thing. I chose to think about it before approving or denying. Gray is not worth either of the other relievers. Wigginton's contract is reasonable. Casilla is not close to returning to the majors. Walker will be playing in my softball league next year. Mid level draft picks. I can not see a single reason the Cubs would make this trade. Too lopsided for me to approve.
Cubbies, please give me more of a statement as to how this improves your team. I understand the Wigginton part and possibly Thornton, but can't get why Robertson was thrown in. I understand not competing this year, but this trades makes me think that you will not be trying to compete for several years. Please let me know why made this trade and I will consider approval. Please include the intriguing part of Walker.
New offer on the table to CI Wigginton, Ty, $3m (2010)RP Thornton, Matt, $1m (2011) to C-CI Walker, Neil, $0.5m (P-n/a)RP Gray, Jeff, $0.5m (P-n/a)6-4 PIT7-4 PITEssentially, the Cubs get younger at CI, and then receive a replacement reliever plus solid mid-round picks for Thornton.
