Edmonton does this trade to land a goalie who can hopefully re-gain his Calder form or at very least not be as bad as last season. If he doesn't work out he is only on a 1 year contract so he can move many ways. Elias had a huge season this year and should have another good season along with Kovalchuk but I would rather take the chance with Mason then Elias with his age.

i made this trade cause mason (calder year) days are over and won t be back in CLB next year ... so were does he go now ? minors , KHL or # 2 in NHL ... just hoping he does not make an Elliott of himself    cause i will be the big loser in this one

so after the 1st of july if Mason is not the starting goalie what will i get for him ... a bucket of puck and a roll of hockey tape  ... i m in a situation were i don t have any cap space ( thanks to Gilly ) and in need of players and draft pick ... i m trying to get this team on track even if i have to take some chances

I'm not part of the TC.................and never put my input on trades made, but i have to say this trade reallybothers me. To give up a staring goalie for an aging player just isn't fair AND even if Mason is a back-up next year Edm wins this deal by a mile.

The Columbus Blue Jackets wouldn't get into specifics, but it appears likely that Steve Mason's situation will change in some way or another. Columbus beat writer Aaron Portzline discussed all kinds of possibilities: waivers, a trade, a buyout or even Mason becoming a backup. Here's what GM Scott Howson said: "We need better play from that position. I told Steve in our exit interviews (earlier this month) that we're going to have a different look at that position next year, but that right now, nobody can predict what form that's going to take."

I think you just nailed it on the head Drew.............And thats the ptoblem I have.I'snt it better that Dall takes a chance on Mason given the fact he may only have 3 back-ups and isn't in a position to even offer a tender on a starter.Meanwhile you have two starters already. What is better for the league??? You really think Dall can compete with 2 back-ups???
