TRADE - Marlins and A's Agreement

The  and the  have agreed to the following deal:

  receive MI/CI Fontenot, Mike, $0.5m (P-2010)

and

  receive: OF Coghlan, Chris, $0.5m (P-2012)

While Coghlan is struggling now, I believe he may be able to rebound.  He is a good OBP guy when he gets it going.  I am a big Fontenot fan, but Hank needed a MI and Fontenot fits the bill.  Both players are young hitters in good lineups.

Good deal for both. 

This trade is pending the approval of the Cubbies/A's deal from earlier.

The Marlins are to confirm.

The Marlins are in need of a MI. Fontenot is playing well and he will be a good fit to this team. It's not easy for us to part with the ROY (09), Chris Coghlan. But we have more flexibility in OF. We accept this trade and would like to thank OAK GM for the negotiations.

mm really? I would think Coghlan has much more future value than Fontenot, while their present value may be arguable...

Cheap price for Coghlan but if you need a MI what can you do? Approved

really. Marlins are in a rebuilding mode, so why give up a young guy like this, that has some years left on his contract.

Hey i know, thats why im questioning this trade. The Marlins dont even have a win this season, so why get rid of a young player and bring a old one in?

I have to agree here... it is a head-scratcher.  Some additional compensation such as a draft pick would make it acceptable.

It would have to be a hell of a draft pick. Talking about a cheap ROY who will be under contract for 2 more seasons after this one. Ole Mike is a FA THIS YR and don't forget the platoon possibility w/ Jeff Baker.
