Rangers and Avs make a big trade!!
« on: September 23, 2020, 12:19:31 PM »
:COL-NHL: gets

Nathan McKinnon

:NYR: get

Michael Rasmussen
Dylan Cozens
Alex Newhook
Nicholas Roy

I land my favorite player in the NHL for a hefty package of top prospects. This hurts a bit to watch this many prospects leave but I knew I had to pay a lot to get the best player in the NHL.

Thanks Ryan for the deal  :toast: :toast: :toast:

:NYR: confirms

Trading a player like McKinnon is never easy to approach.  It's obviously not the type of move that is made in regular sports very often because of fan bases and marketing.  However, in fantasy it is the kind of move that can be made if the scenario makes sense.  Obviously, I'm assuming a ton of risk here, but I'm up against the cap and while I could have possibly survived the year with almost no flexibility, I chose to take the risk because of the 4 big time prospects I was able to grab.  While Rasmussen will not equal the production immediately, he will slot into my lineup nicely and should take a nice step forward next year at a much cheaper price.  Cozens and Newhook are both pretty well consensus top 10 prospects and both provide massive upside to either or both reach the same level as McKinnon in the not so distant future and Roy is a nice top 50 prospect with great upside as well.  Giving myself a little space under the cap also allows me to promote a Shesterkin and give myself a third big time goalie as well as potentially add another piece to the lineup.  So risky for sure to trade a player of that caliber, but I feel like it's worth the risk.  Thanks to Jesse for negotiating it straightforward and getting a deal done!

:iatp: Didn't see this coming and I am on the fence if it's enough or not, mostly because Mckinnon is one of the few guys very hard to trade for just a package of specs (no matter the upside).

I do trust as Ryan he is a vet GM and if he thinks this is better for him long term no issue.

Rangers had no choice to trade a high salary player as he has only 0.6 in cap. He still have a lot of good players on his team and he received 4 good prospects

His best move was when he took over Rangers instead of keeping Anaheim. :winner:

NYR needed cap space, we will have to wait and see if the prospects will be as productive as expected.
Personally I would have like to see some draft choices included in the package, but then again, It's important to have some cap space during the season, if you want to make some moves.
