Senators & Flames New Years Eve Deal

Submitted for review by the Trade Committee is a deal between Calgary and Ottawa.

Having recently added a young goalie in Kinkaid we think it is safe to move Bernier who is useful but not in our future plans. In this deal we add the Flames goalie of the future Juuse Saros. It cost us a great goalie prospect and our top draft pick which could be Top 5 and likely a Top 10 next yr. Wideman has a big cap hit we can absorb and Beauchemin seemed to be on the outs with Ottawa so we took him to make this happen.

Ottawa management accepts this trade with the Calgary Flames. We deal underwhelming older Defencemen Wideman and Beauchemin while acquiring younger assets for our restructuring initiative in Ottawa. Evan is a talented goalie and the Flames high 1st Round Draft Pick will be most useful. We are pleased with the other assets which make this trade quite beneficial to our organization with respect to players and cap space. A very efficient negotiation with the new Calgary owner. I think Saros is going to be huge! Good deal for the Flames. For sure Dennis Wideman and Francois Beauchemin had overpriced salaries for what they bring.

Agree. Jusse Saros will be a big part of an NHL team whether it's Nashville or another NHL city, he will be a force very soon.
