Also Khabi has got more playing time and been a more productive player, but we have to consider the long term and Khabi's nearly eligible for social security at this point.

ALTHOUGH, now that I looked it over again Bill is saving a ton of money over the long term by dealing Plekanec.  5 years at $5m is a hefty contract for him.  I didn't really account for that in my initial assessment. 

I think if saving $20m over 4 years is worth a 1st round pick to the Habs, we probably shouldn't get in the way of it.

I think Edmonton probably has the edge with that first round pick but taking in the cap numbers I am ok with the trade.

Hemsky is almost a point a game guy, if he can put together a full season he has a decent chance to out perform Plekanec, and Khabi should be better than Auld. The 3rd rounder is also at least the #1 pick of that round, so that should net a decent player also.

I vote NO. way lopsided in this one. plek for hemsky is about the only fair side of this. Sorry but i would say if u made the trade plek and auld for hemsky and khabi and if u wanna throw pick round montreal could recieve a 3rd round pick and edmonton could get a 2nd then i would approve it

  hemskey is the best player in the deal and he gives up a first rounder for it. he might be losing in the trade but its not too uneven for a veto. and the swap older goalies

I've been reading over everyone's thoughts on this a few times, and my answer is still approve. Here are my thoughts.

If Hemsky is healthy, I'd take him over Plekanec probably, and definitely if it fit my positional needs but the health risk makes this a good value. Auld vs Khabi; Khabi is probably going to split time with Dubnyk and might get the edge in starts enough though Dubnyk showed last year that he is a future #1 goalie he is still young and Khabi is experienced and a good goaltender. Auld is going to be regulated to back-up and depending on the health of Anderson, I'd say get 20 games. Khabi splitting time with a slightly older more experienced Edmonton team is surely going to get more wins and points than last year.  As for the 1st rd and 3rd rd picks, I valued Hemsky and Khabi over Plekanec and Auld, this pick swap evens things out more. Factoring in the cap issue, I can see why both teams are ok with this trade in the short term and long run.
