P Blackburn, Nick, $0.5m (2011)
P Stewart, Zachary, $0.5m (P-n/a)

to the rockies in exchange for

CI Belt, Brandon, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Sappelt, Dave, $0.5m (P-n/a)

the yanks do this trade for upside, blackburn has been pitching well but im not buying long term, stewart being able to play Rp was tough to deal and hinske is solid and cheap but limited upside.
i will take the chance on belts upside and sappelt as well.

I would like to hear an explanation from the Rockies GM.  Blackburn is a decent SP rental in our scoring system, but Belt is a highly regarded prospect.

i will tell u wht he told me and then he can respond to u as well. what he told me is he wanted pitching depth to help him this year apparently a lot of his pitchers are hurt from what i understood that was why we made this deal.....i know you need to hear from him just thought i would tell u this.

Bottomline, I am going for it all this year and the 2 SP will help me out while Bucholz is on DL. Blackburn has pitched great in his last 7 starts. Stewart was a top 10 spec in the jays system for some time and the dual sp/rp ability does give me an advantage. Hinske is my answer for my open CI spot until Wright returns. He is getting regular playing time in atlanta with Prado out.

I understand the logic, but I am going to vote against this trade.  Hinske isn't playing regularly because McLouth is back. 

For the trade, I value Belt higher than this.  He could ultimately fail, but his OBP, mediocre to mid-level power, and other skills make for great potential in this format.  While I understand he could fail, Stewart has not shown success even at the AA level.  His numbers have regressed at each level and could easily end up back in the minors soon. 

Blackburn's success actually surprised me when I looked him up.  He has very solid GB ratio, but not a ton else.  I see Sappelt as more valuable than Hinske, he is proving that last year was not a fluke in AA, with great numbers again at AA.  Crowded situation in CIN, but he can play Def unlike many of the other OF options.  Even if Belt becomes half of his potential, he will outperform the two Pitchers in return each year. 

In addition, this value is not near the value that Belt has been traded for this year, when he was the key piece to acquire Joe Mauer.  http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=19733.0

as i was told in another deal of mine what belt was traded for before has no impact on his overall value. if someone else values him more and paid more thats not my problem. i feel i have seen trade equal to this one go through. i dont understand.....but i am new

True, but I am allowed to bring it up for the New GM of the Rockies.  While previous trades do not factor in, it is shown as an example to back up the rest of my argument.  If you take that example away, the rest of the post still states why I don't agree with the trade. 

I understand that opinions on Belt are subjective and the next TC member may disagree.  This is just my opinion.
