I am trading Ekblad (very very tough decision) but I am receiving in exchange youth. I expect that the 4th and 11th picks will translate in very good players since all experts said that this draft will be one of the best. Samuel Morin should be a top and tough defenceman for many years with NHL PHIL club and Jensen has also a good future with Vancouver.

Ekblad is a star defenceman but I have already a good group of defencemen and Morin should be part of it in a very near future as well as Josh Morissey who is waiting on my Farm team.

Laughton will become a good NHL player but I have already a lot of young Centers and I will be adding Eichel as well next week-end

Just want everyone to be aware that a 4th and 11th don't translate to those exact positions.

The 4th should translate to the 17th overall pick. The 11th would translate to a 39th overall pick based on hometown selections. That is quite the difference.

Factor in that Ekblad was not only one of the top rookies last season but one of the top defensemen in the league and he is still on a prospect contract for 3 more years where as Morin as good as he may be one day still has yet to crack the NHL roster. Jensen and Laughton really cancel out for me. It makes it seems like not enough to me but I am not TC but just wanted to voice my opinion on a young stud.

With all the draft eligible players the picks are gold, IMO.

The comments about the trade are noted.  For me, it's well within the sphere of what two GMs should be allowed to work out between themselves.

Drew  -  I think the 4th pick translates to the 12th overall pick (Dallas) not the 17th. The 5th pick which is mine will be Winnipeg (17th). The 11th will be around the 38th pick (Columbus I think)

 

In the real NHL life I would never traded Elkblald but in a Fanatsy league with all the good players in the draft and with my current core of D-Men I could afford to trade him even though he is a star. I might end up with 3 stars at the end

I think Drew's points are pretty valid, though I think he is undervaluing the picks, but this is an acceptable deal. Not that I would make it myself, to each his own.
