Great question. This league is a little different from other leagues in terms of the NHL Draft. In order to keep a bit of a hometown feel in our teams, each team can keep up to 3 draftees that its real life counterpart drafts this year.

All rookies not kept, or drafted by teams not represented in our league are available for our supplemental draft. We can draft any rookie (less than 40 games played), in the supplemental draft that is not on a team's roster in our league, this includes players not picked up or kept from previous draft years.

Okay, that's just furthermore asinine.  How do you finish in the bottom 3 and not get a shot in the lottery.  This is a fantasy league.  If the teams at the bottom in the league don't get a chance at the better prospects in the draft, what is the ****ing point?

How this league has been since day 1, 4 or so years ago. Gives us some organizational fondness and it was a premise on the league on institution.

I see your point, as I have the Ducks and always get lower end picks but it's been how this league has always been since inception and it has worked very well in the last 4 years

Right, it's a wrinkle we've had since day 1.  The intention is to inject homegrown talent into the franchises and it's certainly not always fair. 

However, those supplemental draft picks are gold in this league.  The bottom teams do still have an advantage.
