Baltimore close to finding GM
« on: April 26, 2011, 05:31:05 PM »
The Orioles are close to finding their new GM.  The franchise needs stability and growth within its MLB roster.  The internal waiting list has been exhausted, but there are two candidates from Yahoo that want the job.  Let's hope we find a good one here!

I am interested in taking over the team. I have a great depth of knowledge of baseball and the minor leagues that will help me succeed. Will first try and package some of the contracts with the more desirable players  to create some breathing room first. Then start rebuilding through the draft and get competitive real quick.

Hello everyone I am the new GM for the Baltimore Orioles.
My plan for the Orioles is to assess the roster that I am taking over and determine the areas of strenth and weakness.  The roster seems very week at MI as well as MLB players.  The roster seems to have alot of young players to build around.  I will look at adding MLB players in the short-term to help build a more competitive roster as well as building the farm team up through the draft to bring the orioles continued success.  I will be looking to have the Orioles be competitive in 2014 as this will likely be a 3-5 year rebuild plan.

Best advice we can give a newcomer is to take your time, read the rules carefully and develop a long-term strategy... sure you'll need to make moves to improve, but transactions are very fluid here and you'll have plenty of time to make things happen.

Welcome aboard and best of luck to you!  :toth:

We need to make a decision here...

Candidate #1 - Bob Smith
Hello everyone I am the new GM for the Baltimore Orioles.
My plan for the Orioles is to assess the roster that I am taking over and determine the areas of strenth and weakness.  The roster seems very week at MI as well as MLB players.  The roster seems to have alot of young players to build around.  I will look at adding MLB players in the short-term to help build a more competitive roster as well as building the farm team up through the draft to bring the orioles continued success.  I will be looking to have the Orioles be competitive in 2014 as this will likely be a 3-5 year rebuild plan.

He sounds committed to the long haul, but we have heard this before from previous GMs who joined and became inactive.  There aren't too many MLB players to add at this point, but this is the best time to do so (I just picked up Humber and Roberts).  Bob and I have corresponded via email four times, and he has been online at ProFSL at least twice now.

Candidate #2 - John Cuozzo
I am interested in taking over the team. I have a great depth of knowledge of baseball and the minor leagues that will help me succeed. Will first try and package some of the contracts with the more desirable players  to create some breathing room first. Then start rebuilding through the draft and get competitive real quick.

John doesn't give as much reason to be hired as Bob - both in this message and his initial email to me.  He happens to be an Orioles fan though, so that always helps.  John and I have corresponded via email four times, and he has posted a few times at ProFSL.

==================

No offense to either candidate, but one of them will lose out here.  Of course, the loser goes to the waiting list and has their choice of other leagues to check out at ProFSL.  I am personally leaning toward Bob.
