Deadline Day Deal: Cats-Sens Mix it up!
« on: February 18, 2015, 01:19:48 PM »
TO :FLO:
C, Patrick Sharp, $8.3m (2012-2017) fat contract few teams can add as easily as FLA
C Andy Miele, $1.1m (2014-2016) buried in AHL, eating this
LTIR - Kimmo Timonen, $1.5m (2014-2017) might play, old guy at 40yo nxt mth
Minor Leaguer - D - Adam Clendening (2011: 2/36 - 0 Games)

TO :OTT:
Lars Eller, $4.7m (2013-2016) need to send some cap back to Sens
LTIR - Matt Cooke, $2.4m (2012-2015) out for the yr, stays on LTIR
Minor Leaguer - C - Reid Boucher (2011: 4/99 - 0 Games) might get callup in spring
Cap savings: 3.8m

Few team can eat cap.

In this deal we're going to eat 3.8 plus the Miele contract which is another 1.1 for a total of close to 5.0m Florida will be eating in this trade.

Eller is younger than Sharp.
Both are good players with Lars moving into his prime and Patrick on the back-9 of his career.
Sharp's 8.3 cap hit is a huge pain in the a$$ but we want Clendening.
Timo might return. but even if he does make be too rusty at age 40 nxt mth to help at a cap hit of 1.5 til 2017.
Shipping Cooke off to shed some cap in this trade since he's out for the remainder of the yr.
Good back and forth with Dickie.  :toast:
Sens to confirm.

Ottawa management confirm.
We need cap space and felt trading Patrick Sharp's $8.3 Million contract was the most efficient way to achieve that. Also given Sharp's age we felt acquiring a younger player such as Eller would benefit Ottawa now and in the long-run.

We intend on promoting our star goalie of the future now that he is officially Ben Bishop's understudy in the NHL with Tampa Bay.

All the other players and draft picks in this trade were necessary to balance out the packages as best we could to get the deal signed by Florida.

Thank you PigsRule and the Panthers organization.

:iatp:  That's the thing with fat contracts. They look good when you sign them then realize you can't trade it easily when the player isn't panning out or you need the cap space to make other moves. Sharp is a good player but he's not getting any younger.

I require from my teams, proper levels of anger, belligerence and some good ol' fashion piss 'n' vinegar.

  • Daddy: For that i got two TVs that could watch any game any time any where. Problem is they getting played at the same times. You cant watch every game. Why you charging me for every game?
