Now this kind of bidding I don't understand. To be clear, I'm not bidding - just seeking clarification.

The minimum you can pay for this guy per year since he was a second rounder and is owed 3 mil is 1.5 mil (half his salary). So why even bother with starting with a bid below 1.5 mil?  This isn't meant as a poke at anyone, I'm just trying to figure out how to most effectively bid for FAs.

If I understand this correct Pickard was drafted 49TH OVERALL so based on this chart in the rules under draft picks I figure that he falls under the last group.

Yep, 49th overall is 2nd round, so 3mil a year.  I'm still not seeing why the bid would start below his required minimum of 1.5mil/yr...
