Ya understood, I guess the bonus thing would work then. So a player could still then be sent down to the minors but then after the 0.2m mark that would be the bonus applied to the salary cap. What about in the case of sending down prospects that were originally drafted by that team, do they include the bonus?
No players would be allowed to be sent down to the minors. We don't have minor league stats, so the only purpose of the MiLR is to allow that place for draft picks to develop. Any player signed as a free agent would not be eligible for the MiLR. Furthermore, no players on the Major league roster would be eligible. If I sign a free agent as a prospect, their bonus would be frontloaded and then removed from my cap next year. Then their contract would return to the 200k cap hit. However, one time change, I would allow teams to send down guys to fill up their MiLR. The players would have to be originally drafted by the In-Real-Life (IRL) team. As the Bruins I'd be eligible (one time) to send anybody (or two or three players) who was drafted by Boston, on my major league roster already, who has not played 40+ games, to the MiLR. This allowed transaction would have to be completed in 2 weeks. After that point, only players drafted (through our draft) would be allowed on MiLR. I'd also allow a team like yours, Drew, (MIN), to attempt to sign their own spects and then transfer them using this one time transfer. All transactions, bidding for the player, and the move to the MiLR, would need to be completed before the date set.
I agree to some extent, but what about players who are available and have never played a game in the NHL yet but are unowned. For example players playing in the WHL/OHL (Junior leagues) who will not be available to even play a game this year unless there is an emergency call up (which rarely happens). And just wondering but how are people saving cap space because any player making 1m+ has probably exceeded 40 games and therefore not be in the minors anyway. Not a confirmation until further discussion. let me know
