Revised Blue Jays/Rockies Trade
« on: November 25, 2013, 05:13:37 AM »
To take into account previous inaccuracy

COL Trades:

Elvis Andrus
Neftali Feliz

All Arb

TOR Trades

6th round pick - 2014 draft
Sean Nolin

Colorado trades mainly through the need to seriously rationalise my roster - all three would be potentially cut at arbitration (due to the factor I have limited headroom (in the case of Andrus) alongside feasible other options in respect of Feliz) and therefore I am trying to maximise my position, and return, before next week's arb deadline.

In return I get an MLB ready pitching prospect (rated number 5 in the Bluejay's prospect list) plus high draft pick to help rebuild my roster going forward.

I am hoping that this clears the veto process as I am in quite a tight position and this trade helps improve my overall situation.

Thanks to Pete for easy negotiations.

Chris

Blue Jays agree to the deal as posted.

We hate to loss Nolin and the draft pick, but it's a small price to pay to add a two more pieces as we gear up for our title run.  Andrus was points away from being a top 5 SS last year - and that was on a down year.  Feliz should enter the year healthy and we hope he can regain the potential he showed prior to his injury.  Either way, he should be a useful arm somewhere on our staff and comes at a relatively reasonable salary.

I approve, Colorado probably could've gotten more dealing them individually, but the return is not unreasonable when considering the Rockies needing the salary dump.

Rockies could have gotten more but limited time and lack of a good PR department has left them with a less than reasonable return.

Each player individually is worth more than that.  Completely lopsided trade.

I'm on the fence about this and also have a bit of a question. If I am correct, Colorado declined to offer arbitration to Andrus and Feliz before any trade was posted. I thought that this would make them FA, making this deal not possible. Also, very lopsided and considering neither player was put on the trade block, more could have easily been done to get a greater return. I would have vetoed the Rosario-included trade in a heartbeat. I am inclined to agree with Chris. :veto:

I have the same question; if these players were not offered arbitration, doesn't that make them free agents?

And besides that, this trade is way lop-sided. A 6th-round pick and a spec for either of these players would be lop-sided. Elvis alone is worth a ton more than this, but if they weren't offered a contracts, why are we voting on this trade?

Andrus and Feliz were asked about to me right after he posted. I let him add them and edited the post to include Feliz and Andrus.

But didn't know it was going to end up like this.  I understand the issues on both sides and wouldn't be surprised if the deal gets vetoed.  I haven't been really paying attention lately as much as I should. I should have vetoed as well but won't change my vote a a it was my fault.
