Oilers Future Outlook
« on: November 18, 2016, 01:17:48 AM »
:iatp: Jonathan is busy this year.

My rebuilding team has been more active in the trade market. Caps not so much. Made 1 move to add a player in KHL. Probably not a good thing my rebuilding team has better record, but my caps have a goalie who is at least relevant.  Oilers are slowly moving in right direction. They were 30th the offseason I acquired them, then finished 29th and last year 27th. Should make a bigger jump this year to around 20th, even with trading my depth.  The core of experienced and youth ain't going anywhere  :P

ADDED the Oil logo to your post.  :toast:

I'm keeping an eye on your shenanigans on Oil country.
Your Oilers are stockpiling a lots of young talent like the real NHL Oil.

Jack Eichel is a great piece to build a franchise around.
There's Sam Reinhart, Matthew Tkachuk, Bo Horvat to name a few others.

Then there's the FARM! It's looking really constipated with talent man!
She's gonna blow at some point and your Oilers will be destroying teams weekly.   :judge::win::winner:

I wasn't meaning to toot my horn, just was replying to Jack who said I was more active  Its fun having a competitive team (that is standing pat) and a rebuilding team to make more moves. Really, Edmonton isn't rebuilding per say, just rebuilding parts (Defense and G to be specific).  Without a bona fide G in this league, you got to be drinking the  :koolaid: to think you got a chance at that :money:

You're building exactly like the NHL Oilers. Lots of young talent. No goalie. Took Edmonton years to find a decent goalie in Talbot.

A little update here.

I traded Spurgeon, Holder, Hjalmarsson, Hickey, Moulson, Lyubimov, Cousins, and Brian Boyle in the past month or so.

I added no currently productive players back and only got Eichel back from injury.

I'm still scoring similar to what I had before, but the team isn't making any real push this year. Actually, this helped me fix my cap, as a I now stand almost 8M in the green versus up against cap.

I don't even have enough D to fill my current team. Somehow, that is 2nd place in the Pacific  Team has studs but lacks G and now depth with all those moves. I think this team can hang around .500 and might sneak in. No real chance this year, obviously...... but encouraging going forward and #1 offseason priority is to sign Eichel long term  :o

Yeah i see you hopped over my coyotes this week. I'm thinking this will be a back and forth trend this season. Not sure what happened with my offense this week. I have a move in my pocket but making it would derail other moves (signings) that need to be made.

You should be able to hold me off, as you currently have a much better situation in G.

Great post and overview of the work in progress Jonathan. The forwards on the Edmonton roster are an enviable collection of future Hall of Famers at the start of their careers.

A well-conditioned team wins in the first ten minutes, maybe less. The opponent is destroyed not just on the scoreboard but their will is broken when an opponent comes out hard and fast.

Oilers oddity#1

Edmonton is the only team in FNHL with more than one "Originals", guys who were originally inherited contracts in 2010. There are five total, Keith and Zetterberg here in Edmonton, Hossa in Ottawa, Nash in the big apple, and Luongo in LA.  All of those contracts end after next year.

I'm rooting for Edmonton to succeed. I've taken a similar approach in Carolina and would like to think this is the blueprint to build a strong contender for years to come.

Since Edmonton is a couple years ahead in the process I would like to see the payoff sooner than later.
