Discussion: Amnesty Buyout
« on: February 20, 2013, 06:34:10 PM »
Jesse brought this up due to our cap dropping by around $6.0m for next season.
- Would this be something we allow or consider?
- How many would we allow?
- What stipulations would be in place?
      - Dollar value?
      - Who can be and who can it not be?
      - Others?

I would allow this if the league is in favour. One stipulation though that would have to be included would be if the player was signed to a extension this season they would be ineligible for the buyout.

What is everyone's thoughts on this?

I would be open to 1 Free buyout and it could not be someone we signed to an extension and they can not be in the minors

I don't like the buy out for these reasons............

A) We would then ( as a league) have to decide on a criteria...ie who, how much salary, what year of their contract.... ect ect.

B) I like the fact BY mirrors the nhl so well. The NHL is not giving any buy-outs that I have heard. Every GM has got to work with in the new salary cap and build his team the best he can.We should  do the same.

C) I dont know if it is just me but I feel like we already get a free buy-out during the "waiver free period". If Havlat was on his last year of his contract...........he would be sitting in the minors for me!!!! :puke:

So for those reasons I gotta  :veto:

Just for information

A) I think we could do something easy like I suggested above

B) The real NHL gets 2 free buyouts per teams 1 this year and 1 in 2013-14 although a team can use both this year or 1 in each season but can not use both in 2013-14

C) I think having a free buyout will help eliminate having high paid stars like Havlat out of the minors and on our rosters

Unfortunately I am going to stick with the rules here to emulate the NHL cap as that is in the rules, the projected cap space is always kept up to date so teams should know where they sit going into the next year as well.

B) I like the fact BY mirrors the nhl so well. The NHL is not giving any buy-outs that I have heard. Every GM has got to work with in the new salary cap and build his team the best he can.We should  do the same.
As Jesse stated the NHL has two amnesty buyouts, one that can be used this season if they wish and 1 next season. They can also both be used next season if they wish. This would mean that we would be emulating the NHL if we added these.

I am going to add a poll at the top on whether to have them or not, then we can decide on stipulations if need be after.
