Pigsrule invited some of us over from a CBS Hockey pool we started with a bunch of CBS board veterans. We were looking for something more challenging than the usual H2H for money. He found this league and said it was different. Early on, FNHL was run like others, fly by night commissioners who left after 10mths there was Joeshmoe who set it up then handed it off to someone who was bipolar and was good but then went off the rails badly and got banned for being a jerk, owners abandoning teams, we're talking 2/3 of the league. Then PR took over year 2 and laid down the law. That drove a bunch of not too serious owners to join the free leagues. But perhaps the best move Pigsrule made was when he recruited PPG from out of retirement as I understand. HAHAHA Told old PPG to put on some pants and get to work. PPG's been the back bone of FNHL ever since IMO. Pigsrule is the brains. PPG's the glue that holds everything together and makes it run like clock work.
BB's right, PR dragged me outta retirement because I had given up Fantasy sports for a long time. Years maybe over a decade when we were still drafting with pencil and paper over beers. He said there was a decent setup in FNHL in need of some fine tuning to get the best fantasy hockey minds on board. Didn't believe him. Stopped by frequently after PR convinced me or bugged me enough to get my attention. That was back in Summer of 2011 when I was a regular troller, so I know when a new prospective owner tells me they've been trolling FNHL for months, been there ... done that! I saw some guys trying to run FNHL, changing rules on the fly constantly so anyone with a longterm plan was screwed. The league was free so lots of owners were trying out hockey. Most abandoned ship after free agency or after 1-3 months. LOL It was a sad state of affairs.Orignal commissioners year 1 and 2If I recall, the guy originally running things was Joeshmoe and he bailed before Free agency 2011. So 2010-Spring 2011. We think he was a university undergrad. Then there was Gilly who was funny and wired, but lost interest and said he had personal stuff to sort and bailed after a year. 2011- Spring 2012. The league was 1/4 or 1/3 full. Before we banned Gilly, he tried to make PR look bad and PMed the guy running the site and his admins making up lies and trying to get PR suspended or booted altogether. Fast fwd to 2020, Gilly's reputation on ProFSL is a cautionary tale of strange gents hiding behind an internet handle. This guy was someone with personal problems that you could smell from miles away. What I saw of those first 2 commissioners, didn't interest me in spending time on FNHL. Really liked the idea of a 30 team salary cap money league. But it wasn't serious at all because of the guys originally running things. Then PR jumped in starting year 3 (he can tell his side of the story from that point on). Not sure why he did but he did.
Good story PPG! Sounds like it was a bit of the wild west in the early days of FNHL. Glad it's all pro now!
Who else is picturing anchor man battles? I could see Blkhwkfn killing someone w a Trident. PR is definitely Burgandy and PPG Chip in sports
Yeah, he said it was crazy to give a backup 10M. Little did he know.......I haven't hit it with a goalie since, LOL. I think I have done better lately, at least finding guys who get some starts. It should be an interesting FA this year, with cash being king. I'd expect the contracts to be on the lower end, giving the extensions and reduction in cap. Who knows? This went from a project to the best league on site. Not bad. I was sad at the end of last year. I took the worst team and made them the best, and then they choked in playoffs and then Covid happened. They wanted to make sure the didn't get to hold that cup.
