OPTION 1: FNHL PLAYOFFS PARALLEL LEAGUE 2020-21 (4wks)
« on: March 21, 2020, 04:14:10 PM »
There's chatter that the NHL could let all teams end the "regular season" with 71 games played and start the Playoffs immediately.

If that scenario plays out, our FNHL playoffs would not work.

Perhaps a suggestion would be to repurpose the remainder of the 2019-20 FNHL playoffs and plug it into the start of the 2020-21 NHL season's schedule. Just a suggestion.

This idea has LEGS baby!

I like that idea to play out the remainder of the 2019-20 playoffs.

Running with that idea to building on that thought, we could create a parallel league with the 8 remaining playoff teams at the start of 2020-21 and play out
* Round 2 Thurs-Sun -- 4 days
* Conference Finals -- 1 week
* FNHL FINALS -- 2 weeks

We would have to ensure:
* the remaining 8 teams have a say and
* 8 teams would need to agree to any setup that is not the expected regular course of the FNHL playoffs we normally undertake
* 8 teams would need to agree unanimously that the prize pool is in-play or agree the remainder of FNHL playoffs are for fun only with no official result recorded.

Parallel league to play out the remainder of the playoffs would be free to setup on Fantrax because it's less than 12 or 16 teams -- but to be double checked by myself & PR.

I believe commissioner controls would allow me and PR to set matchups for each remaining Playoff Round.

:DAL-NHL: & :PIT-NHL: MCrow
:MON-NHL: Mordecai
:NAS: Burkes Boys

Let's hear from these gents! What say you to this idea? Also, if we do this, do you all agree to play using this format and play for :money: prize pool payout?

Do we have to wait until a month in to have the supplemental and Entry draft? Those are based on results of playoffs. Also, you would have to change the scoring because fights are an advanced stat and would need a premium fee to use.

Yes, we will need to move those dates out.

Good point. Haven't had to hand pick that stat because we carry over league rules & rosters annually when we setup a new season. That sucks. Consider that stat a RED FLAG. As a preliminary solution, maybe we sacrifice 80$ from the prize pool with the agreement of the remaining teams with a stake in the prize to pay for a Custom Fantrax league.

TBD. But good point to flag about the Flighting Stat being a premium Fantrax feature.

I agree. This plan has strong potential. We might be able to get the Premium fighting stat free if Fantrax still allows a free month trial. We could potentially manually enter the results into the 2019-20 version of FNHL on Fantrax for record keeping.

My hope is the NHL can play out the regular season starting in mid June if you look at how some countries showing recovery from COVID-19 needed 3 months to get things under control. The NHL and players want to recoup all the lost revenue they can when play resumes.

Agree with Jonathan. Whether there's a fee or not, it would be a great way to play through the remainder of the FNHL Playoffs and crown a new champ for 2019-20. I would start that in week 2 or 3 of the season because week 1 is usually shortened or has weird travel overseas what truncates the schedule of those teams.

In order to do this properly our rosters would have to be what they are now just for the parallel playoffs. 2020-21 rosters will be different do to contracts, trades, and the drafts. If that’s the case i like it.

I'm not opposed to it, so I won't block it.

Just that everyone needs to consider that it's a different season, so it will change the dynamics. Players who are UFA's will be unsigned ... which will be even more likely if the NHL has a much shorter offseason. Some will retire. Some will move on to the KHL. Some goalies will lose their starting jobs. Some skaters will get demoted to the AHL.

These are all things that we adjust to over the course of an offseason ... and even over the course of the regular season. But there will be no course for adjustment in a 3-4 week playoff. No trades. No FA signings. Just luck of the draw.

Just something to think about.

The way I see it, the continuation of the playoffs would be set up on a parallel league site. Put another way, we wouldn't just create additional matchups in the 2020-21 league site, we would make a different site for only the 8 remaining playoff teams to play it out.

I respect all those points, Crow. :iatp:
All valid. We will have to see how different and impacted team rosters are in a few months if we consider moving fwd with this option. At this time, we looking over things and giving it a good sniff test, and I agree, some of those potential issues smell bad and could hurt the integrity of of the 2019-20 playoff results.

For now, let's keep poking this option and seeing what issues we need to drill down on if we move ahead.
