A pretty good idea, but I can see a couple of possible problems.  As an example, it's possible a team can be 'auto drafted' with two players at the same position without really wanting that.  Also, with an 'auto draft', there could then be a run happen at a certain position, say pitcher, where a team may end up getting the 8th best pitcher instead of a higher ranked player at another position.

I see your point, but I wonder how much of a difference position makes at this level.

We could definitely autopick for somebody at the end of their time period, but the potential issue with that is it would require someone with the list of players to be around at the time the clock expires. If not, then the next team might draft a player that would be autopicked before it's announced. This issue becomes magnified with shorter timeframes to draft.

I vaguely remember someone saying a communal email address or account could be created where we would send our lists of players. We would only log in to see the lists if it becomes necessary. Not sure how this would work though. How do you prevent everybody from just logging in to see everybodys lists?

I've spoken with some other commissioners to get some feedback about the time limit. Suggestions have varied, with some people recommending 12 hours, some a hybrid system. Unlike Beau's suggestion, this one was for 12 hrs in the early rounds, and then decreasing the time limit in later rounds, down to as low as 6.

The people I've spoken to found that with shorter time limits, more people would miss their picks.

I haven't made up my mind yet. Just passing along what I hear.

How about no time clock, but how attentive you are to the draft helps to determine whether we want some to play in the sandbox with us in 2013 :soapbox:

I'm proposing the following:

A. 12 hour clock for Round 1 and Round 2 (I believe everybody who didn't abandon the league made their picks in Round 1 & 2 last year).

B. 4 hour clock beginning in Round 3 (should move the draft along faster)

C. Able to make up picks if clock has expired, with no limit, unlike last year (trade-off for those who can't check in as frequently)

D. Maximum size of autopick list, in case you're not around to draft, is 20 players. Must be re-sent and updated after every round. Exceptions may be made for those anticipating an extended absence (i.e. a vacation), at the discretion of the commissioner.

E. Clock is suspended for the following 2 periods:
a. Wednesday before Thanksgiving at 12pm ET until the following Monday morning at 6am.
b. Christmas Eve at 12pm ET until January 1st at 12pm ET

Not finalized yet, but is the direction we're headed in unless we get significant support for something else.

If making up a pick that was missed, you will have to state the round and pick number for the missed pick. This makes things easier to track.

This is pretty much finalized unless I hear some strong opposition at the last minute.
