Braves/A's Deal
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:57:46 PM »
Oakland A's and the Atlanta Braves have agreed to the following deal:

Oakland Receives:
CI Stewart, Ian, $0.5m (P-2011)
P Jurrjens, Jair, $0.5m (P-2011)
OF Anderson, Garret, $1.5m (2011)
X Braves to pay $1m in 2010 toward Anderson
OF McLouth, Nate, $5.5m (2011)
X Braves to pay $1m in 2010 toward McLouth

for

Atlanta Receives:
OF Maybin, Cameron, $0.5m (P-2012)
OF Bradley, Milton, $4m (2010)
P Anderson, Brett, $0.5m (P-2012)
P Perry, Ryan, $0.5m (P-2012)

I went toe-to-toe with the King.  I think we both came out competitive for this year and looking good for the future.

So I make this move for Stewart a very good young bat.  He is producing very well and his career numbers show last year's OBP struggles to be more of an anomaly.  I also recieve Jurrjens a serviceable arm, I hoping he begins to bounce back from his early season struggles.  McLouth is a good option in the OF, he walks a ton, provides stats across the board, hopefully his 40% K rate can lower to his career norms.  He is a very streaky player.  GA adds depth.

I give up a premier young arm in Anderson.  His innings increase 2008 - 2009 and high slider % worry me.  He is great when on the mound and locked in thru 2012.  Maybin will be very good, but appears to be somewhat streaky.  He is a toolshed, but we will have to see how he continues to develop.  Milton is a wild card, I see him and Mclouth as a wash, both are looking to get it going.  Perry is a good young arm, but in our scoring format, he is simply ok.

Trade is pending that the TC approves the Marlins/A's deal from a few days ago.

Good deal for both.

My ego will not let be me outdone by a girl lol. Afterall, I am the TradeKing and not the TradeQueen. Big thing here is, all the guys I traded are on 2011 contracts and I don't see me being all the way there in order to compete next yr. I add depth and youth to my team. These guy will be around for while under their current contract. Bradley could be very nice if he turns it around and a very nice gift for a playoff bound team come the trade deadline. I needed some RP depth and Perry fits the bill to the "T." I hate to give up Ian Stewart, but based on my Abreu trade, there was no reason to keep him around to compete on an avg team. I also unload cap, just like in my last trade in order to set myself up nicely in FA to make a real move.

Cap Space Change:

haha I was just saying, I was the King for a reason and  if I were to be outdone then I would be the Trade Queen.  :taco:

P.S. The taco has no relevance to the situation, but he just looks rlly cool and wanted to finally use him in a post  8-)

A keen observation indeed...

Rebuttal: A.) Last yr was his rookie season. Almost all rookie pitchers go through a workload increase during their rookie season due mainly to the length of the MLB season. B.) He is 6'4" 235 lbs. Need I say more? The guy has a huge frame and is capable of being a workhorse. C.) His workload was 175 IP, which really isn't even that high. Then add the fact that he had only 150 K's (he wasn't pitching 3-5 pitches an AB to get the K along with being a GB pitcher). If that weren't enough, his WHIP was pretty good at 1.2.

:judge:  Good analysis on both sides of this deal.  Let's see how this one works out for the Braves.  A's sure get primed for a playoff run.

Shouldn't the RS money follow Milton to ATL. We (RC) decided that money should stay with the contracts. FLA sent the RS money with Bradley, to the A's. After Parker brothers, er Milton Bradley was sent to ATL I would think this would be an instance where that would hold true to form.

I thought about raising that an issue, but I processed the trade without the RS money.  I did this because we have had moves in the past where RS money didn't follow.  I am moving this back to the open transactions board to see what Rob and Aubrey say.  Perhaps they will agree on the RS money moving?
