Tigers and Red Sox pull of blockbuster deal
« on: October 11, 2010, 12:15:57 AM »
few players following me
Red Sox trade:
OF Davis, Rajai, $2m (2013)
OF Ellsbury, Jacoby, $6.5m (2015)
MI Scutaro, Marco, $4m (2012)
P Hagadone, Nick, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Tigers trade:
OF Crawford, Carl, $12m (2014)
OF DeJesus, David, $5.5m (2013)
SP Jackson, Edwin, $13m (2014)

I do this deal because i get a solid top hitter in crawford and dejesus who i feel can be another solid hitter  coming off injury and jackson a solid sp to help fill in sp needs

I am not on the trade committee but im sure anyone can comment. This trade is just flat out awful. Ellsbury when healthy is productive, but still not as good as crawford. The players Detroit is trading are way more valuable than players they are getting back. Crawford alone for those 3 would be about as low as you could take back. Little lone get Edwin Jackson a young arm who is a top 30 pitcher. DeJesus is very underrated. He averaged over 20 points per game this year. Which is higher than Jacoby (during Ellsbury's 09 season). No disrespect to either party, the Red Sox are just trying to improve there team, but this trade is really really bad!

Tigers Send
Crawford 3505 points 22.76 a game  OF Rank #9
Jackson 1857 points 58.03 a start      SP Rank# 27
DeJesus 1886 20.73 a game               OF Rank#71

for

Sox Send
Scutaro 1645 points 10.97 a game           MI Rank # 29
Davis 1630 points 11.40 a game              OF Rank # 86
Ellsbury 2936 points 19.19 a game  in 2009

Tigers accept. The productivity is about the same, while I free up substantial amount of cap room.

Taking contracts out of equation I agree with you corey but that is where this league isn't like normal fantasy. Me taking on 30 mil while Hank takes about 11mil frees him up alot of cash to get players to make this deal better for him in long run. I have higher payroll I want more of a gaurantee I have to money to take them on. I actually find it humorous you ( Corey) make that statement when you just made deal if we put stats out is a terrible trade far worse then this one you deal cc who scored 2200 and get back ibanez who scored 2600 overbay 2400 and hughes 1225 where does that equal out with out taking all factors considered

Jeff here is the difference. I traded a top 10 pitcher for Hughes 39 points per start almost half of CC. I got Ibanez 38 yr old OF and Overbay who might lose his 1B job to Adam Lind. You traded Davis a below average OF Scutaro an average MI and Jacoby for a Top 8 OF, a top 30 pitcher who is in his mid-twenties and DeJesus who when healthy (yes he is a health risk, but so is Jacoby) has the same production of Jacoby. I cant see how you can think this is fair. Anyway its a mute point with me Jeff. We will see what the Trade Committee says.

I do believe there is value in cap relief, but the problem with this trade is that BOS receives 3 core contributors while DET receives 1 contributor and some fillers.  My problem is that Davis is not a starter and probabky never will be again.  Hagadone has lost his ridiuculous GB ratio, post TJ surgery and could end up in the bullpen, and Iglesia or Navarro will be close to taking Scutaro's job soon enough.  Det is giving up 3 players that would contribute through their contracts and not getting enough in return.

I don't value using just previous pts, it is also age, contract, and opportunity.  This easily amednable, but I will leave that up to the managers.

We currently have no one on the TC supporting this deal with two on the TC against such deal.  It is automatically vetoed.  The contract relief is a big part of the equation, but perhaps less one-sided talent and less cap relief can be arranged in a new deal.  Gentlemen, please go back to the drawing board.
