Cubs continue the salary purge

[KDoc09]

Pending approval of the earlier trade between the Pirates and the Cubs, the Cubs and Yankees are pleased to announce the following trade:

Cubs trade:
P Guthrie, Jeremy, $4m (2013)
OF Scott, Luke, $12m (2013) + $9m in 2011, $2.5m in 2012
MI Theriot, Ryan, $3.5m (2012)

to the Yankees for:
P Garland, Jon, $7m (2014)
SP Maine, John, $3m (2012)
OF Peguero, Carlos, $0.5m (P-n/a)

The Cubs pay nearly all of Scott's contract in 2011 and take on Garland and Maine's contracts in order to give themselves additional cap flexibility in 2012 and beyond. Guthrie & Theriot are solid players on good contracts who should help the Yankees in their playoff push and the Cubs are happy to bring in another young, high-upside OF in Peguero. Thanks Daniel for the smooth negotiations and good luck. Yankees to confirm.
