VOTE - Weekly IP Limit Threshold

[Colby]

We will take some biased (to the winner) average.  Responses will help greatly.

[Colby]

I voted for 85 IP... That is 9 starts averaging 7 innings plus 22 innings from relief.  It seems like a good number to prevent SP start overkill.

I'm anxious to vote but I'm not sure yet what is best. I'll wait to see some more discussion.

9 starts is a little too high for me.  I'm thinking that most teams will carry 5 SPs with 1-2 getting 2 starts that week.  I also think
assuming every starter will go 7 is optimistic, so I will assume 6.  That equal 42 plus another 10-15 for relievers.  Factoring in bad
starts, I will go for the low number of IP which is 65.

You have to factor in extra innings and even the truncation of the schedule.  Of course, we want to keep things on an even keel with batters per the Jamesian ratios.

I look at it like this.

7 days/games a week
9 innings per game = 63 innings.

Since this is fantasy you have a few more plus you might the eventual extra innings. My vote is 75. I would be comfortable with 85 as well.

Here's another angle:
Assume 32 starts per SP (162 games/5-man rotation, standard MLB policy)
Assume a 6 (?) man rotation=192 starts (Part of the argument against limiting pitching was teams currently having many SP on their rosters)
Divide 192 by 23 weeks (Fantrax schedule)=8.3 starts/wk
Multiply that by 7 innings per start and I would tend to go for 85 leaving 27 innings for relief (approx. 4 inn./day)

:iatp:  I like the math on that one Rick.

[Paul S.]

85 IP looks like a reasonable number for the league.

[Colby]

With Baltimore out, there are 16 GMs who still haven't voted.  I have a good feel for where all of this is headed (85 IP), but half of the league still needs to make a decision here.
