Pirates acquire AGon from BoSox

[Colby]

If there is any indication by the moves the Pirates have been making, is that they are serious about adding power to their lineup.  While the rest of free agency looms with pitching being a big question, the signing of Pujols and now the acquisition of Gonzalez changes the roster completely.

Upon approval of the Red Sox and the TC, the Pirates make the following trade.

:BOS2: receives
CI Olt, Mike, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Wilson, Austin, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Wheeler, Tim, $0.5m (P-n/a)

:PIT: receives
CI Gonzalez, Adrian, $19m (2015)
OF X-CI Gonzalez, Adrian, Cash Exchanged on Contract through 2014, $-1.5m in 2014   $-1.5m
X-CI Gonzalez, Adrian, Cash Exchanged 2014-2015, $-8m in 2014

The big loss here is Olt who can be a $500k player through 2017 and likely $4m or so for 5 years after that.  He has a history of power in the Rangers minor leagues and now teams up with young gun Rizzo in the Cubs infield.  He's arguably our best prospect, and it goes against the grain of what we have been trying to accomplish by building for the future, but I'm not sold on Olt for how he did in Texas (where anyone should mash), so I'll sell high on him while I can.

Red Sox agree we have the depth to add to the future. We are very happy to have olt who feel will as was stated pair with rizzo for years on corners in chicago. I also receive guy who really liked coming out of draft feel in few years will be solid scorer in Seattle.  :win:
