WAS pays 8.5 in 2013
SP Lannan, John, $2m (2014)


WAS gets:
CI Dunn, Adam, $12.5m (2013)
X-CI Dunn, Adam, Cash Exchanged 2013, $-5.5m in 2013
C Hanigan, Ryan, $5m (2014)
X-C Hanigan, Ryan, Cash exchanged 2013, $-1m in 2013
OF Altherr, Aaron, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Kearns, Austin, $0.5m (2013)

I'm happy to bring Howard home to the Phils.  I regretted trading him last year.  I like him a little more than Dunn.  Lannan will help fill out my rotation.

This trade gives the Nationals a chance to save $12m in 2014, while spreading Howard's salary for this year over several players for this year.  Hanigan is a nice pickup for an additional catcher. Altherr & Kearns sweeten the pot.

I was the team paying on Howard so when I get him back the money paid on him goes away. WAS then pays the 8.5m on him.
