Minnesota gives:
SS - Manny Machado (MiLB - BAL #1 Prospect)
Toronto gives:
SP - Julio Teheran (Team Control through 2016)
C - A.J. Jimenez (MiLB - TOR #9 Prospect)
SP - Alex Wimmers (MiLB - MIN #14 Prospect)
Minnesota does this trade because we think we are getting the most overall value in this deal. Machado is a stallion of a prospect, but his ceiling is FAR guaranteed. In fact, we are a tid bit worried about his development. He technically really hasn't shown much speed or power in the minors yet, though we have no doubts his power will come around. He is very young for the levels he is playing in. We worry that the Orioles might be rushing him, as well.
We like Teheran and think he has the upside to be an ace. We also think he has a pretty high basement.
A.J. Jimenez is another talented player that we will gladly take in. If you sweep our minor league system, you will find ZERO catcher over the age of 16 that can legitimately be called a prospect. Our farm system desperately needed help at this position and we believe Jimenez will definitely fill that void. He kind of reminds us of Yadier Molina; great defense and high average. He's actually a formidable base-stealer as well. He should swipe somewhere in the teens on a yearly basis.
Lastly, we would like to welcome Alex Wimmers back to Minnesota. He was once a highly touted prospect here. Unfortunately, he just isn't quite as tough as he used to seem. We'll gladly take him back in though.
