Tigers/Cardinals Trade
« on: March 14, 2012, 05:56:58 PM »
The Tigers and Cardinals have agreed to a trade.

Cardinals send Colby Rasmus (OF) and Jason Motte (RP)

Tigers send Jacob Turner (SP) and Andy Dirks (OF)

Cardinals agree to do this trade because we believe Turner has the most potential of this group.  Rasmus could always breakout like everybody else does in Toronto, but collecting a top 10 prospect for Rasmus and a decent closer seems like a good plan for our team as we continue to build for the future.  Dirks is an Ok player to fill Rasmus' roster spot.

Thanks to Detroit for a good deal that helps both teams.

Tigers agree to this trade.

It was tough to part with Turner but I've always been a fan of Rasmus and have faith that he'll pick it up in Toronto. It's nice to have a longer-term solution than Marlon Byrd. I'm very happy to also grab Motte in this deal, as I've been trying to find closers for this team.

Contract info for the players involved:
Rasmus ($443,000 in 2012 and arb next two seasons)
Motte ($435,000 in 2012 and arb next two seasons)
Turner ($440,000 in 2012; $480,000 in 2013, and arb for the three subsequent seasons)
Dirks ($440,000 in 2012; $480,000 in 2013, and arb for the three subsequent seasons)

Thanks to Nick for working with me on this deal!

What is it with the Tigers and trading players that end up getting injured.  First V-Mart and now Turner.  Is detroit like hotel california?  You can check out but never leave (unless you want to go on IR) ha ha
