Discussing the 48 hour period in FA
« on: February 22, 2012, 02:22:08 PM »
I have had a few conversation with some owners who avidly opposed the 48 hour rule we currently have in place for bidding on Free Agents.

I believe that the originally constitutionalized rule of 24 hours is more that sufficient.  A great point someone brought up to me was: If you can't briefly log in everyday to bid on the Free Agent you are pursuing, how can you be trusted set you lineup everyday.

I know for a fact that the expansion to the 48 hour period has caused much frustration for owners that I have talked to.  Being one-upped on a bid after holding the winning bid for 40+ hours can be very frustrating and discouraging.

I would like to hear some thoughts from the rest of you on this topic.

I'm willing to listen. If there's overwhelming support for it, I'll change it. However, some people have religious observances that prevents them from logging in on certain days. I'd rather not alienate that group, if possible.

I agree that the 48 hours is cumbersome.  It's not the end of the world if it stays in place but I understand how frustrating the process can be of waiting two full days.  If the religious issues are stemming from observations of the Jewish Sabbath, could we put in an exception for those time periods perhaps?  If it's for the observance of specific holidays, I'm sure we could find some way to work around those as well.

Just my thoughts on the issue.  I'm most likely not going to be heavily involved in the remainder of free agency, but I do understand the side of the other GM's that are frustrated.

Most leagues on this site do 48 hours for Free Agency. I for one work long hours 3-4 days in a row and I may not be able to get on that first day. The extra day allows me a chance to look at the bids a day later. I think we should keep it as is.

I'm glad we can get a little conversation going on this.  I just want the system to be as good as it can.

Whatever the outcome is of this, I will apply to the 48 hour application period for current GM's to switch teams.

In most leagues it is 48 hrs  and it works for the most of them, should work here too.

Had alot of my bids go 47 i/2 hours now that's frustrating but it is all part of the game

I completely agree with Lindner that the 48hr rule is far too much time, if you can't log in once every 24 hours to check on a bid thread then how can the league expect you to log in once a day to make sure your squad is legal during the season?
I understand everyone has real life obligations that are more important than Roto, I for one have a very demanding job with a very awkward work schedule and a very busy life outside of work, with two young kids whom I play Mr. Mom to on my days off. My point is, if you are committed to making the league work you will find a way to be active when necessary.
From my point of view, having too much time which 48 hours is in my opinion, leads to people making very unwise bids, bids that would not be made had there only been the standard 24 hour bid window.

Stepping off my soap box now.

This may be a silly question, especially coming from me, but why would you have to log in daily during the season anyway? The only times I ever did it was to rotate the SP's, and that wouldn't even be necessary in this league.

Can you explain further? I'm not seeing the connection between time and unwise bids.
