I agree to the proposed changes. The sooner the better. The current system doesn't work.

Anyone else got any thoughts on this? If no one else is against this, we will be pushing this through to start next off-season.

I agree to mirroring the NBA salary cap.  We first did this in NFL Countdown.

I also agree to eliminating the ability to pay on contracts.

If making all the changes for the 2024/2025 season is too much then do a phased approach.

2024/2025
- Eliminate paying on contracts
- Increase Salary Cap 50% of difference between CCD and NBA.
- Increase Extension Values by the same percentage the salary cap increase ends up.

2025/2026
- Increase Salary Cap to Mirror NBA Salary Cap
- Increase Extension Values

This is just spitballing, but something along those lines.

We agree to a phased approach like the one proposed by Brent

We are going to go with a phased approach to this.

Starting after 2023-24 season
1. No longer allowed cash exchanges (any player with a cash exchange already on the books will keep that cash exchange, we just won't allow any new cash exchanges)
2. Increase salary cap by 50% of difference between CCD and real NBA (so if the cap for the 2024-25 NBA season is $20m higher than CCD, we will increase by $10m)
3. Increase extension table to the highest salary being $35m
4. Change the contract table to require higher salary to get more years ($10m is too low to be able to get 5 years with how expensive NBA contracts are now)

Starting after 2024-25 season
1. Increase cap to match the real NBA
2. Increase extension table to highest salary being $40m

Any extension signed this year will be already based on the following updated salary table.

Overall Player Rank
1-5 = $35.0m
6-10 = $32m
11-15 = 29m
16-20 = 27m
21-25 = 25m
26-30 = 24m
31-35 = 23m
36-40 = 22m
41-45 = 21m
46-50 = 20m
51-55 = 19m
56-60 = 18m
61-65 = 17m
66-70 = 16m
71-75 = 15m
76-80 = 14m
81-85 = 13m
86-90 = 12m
91-100 = 11m
101-120 = 9m
121-140 = 8m
141-160 = 7m
161-200 = 6m
201-225 = 5m
226-250 = 4m
250 + = 3m.

The estimated salary cap for 2025 is $125mn. Therefore teams must not exceed this 2025 cap when they re-sign a player

As you know, from next season we will switch from a fixed salary cap to a variable salary cap, that will match the real life NBA cap with a phased approach.

Considering that it will take time for the players contracts to adjust to the new salary table (a lot of the existing contracts are long term and will be re-signed only in 3-4 years from now), it probably make sense to take a slightly more gradual approach, in order to avoid creating too much cap space in next 2-3 season for all the teams.

Instead of increasing salary cap by 50% of difference between CCD and real NBA in 2024/25 and by 100% in 2025/26, we propose to introduce from next season a variable salary cap matching the real NBA cap of two seasons earlier with a rolling approach (obviously player salary table will be also adjusted annually with the highest player salary increasing proportionally with the cap).

Owners would know in advance what the cap is for the next two seasons and this could help them in defining their strategies.

Just to clarify, under this proposal, salary cap will be fixed at $123.7m for 2024/25 and $136m for 2025/26. The CCD salary cap for 2026/27 will match the real life NBA cap that will be set for 2024/25 season.

Please vote if you approve this adjustment to the new salary cap system (yes or no in the poll above)

My vote is no. With a side note that this should have been brought up prior to FA.

My vote is no. With a side note that this should have been brought up prior to FA.

We are asking for the approval of the members precisely because free agency has already started. It is also important to note that the adjustment for next season should be minimal, we estimated $125 as 2024/25 salary cap before the start of FA and, under this proposal, we would fix the cap at $123.7m.
Please note that a majority of the members is required (16 votes) for approval, not just of the voters.

@ScottKD please vote no in the poll above so we can keep track of the vote thanks

I understand, it's 25/26 where the major impact would occur.

I've voted in the poll.
