How do I determine a players ranking for an extension. I understand it?s the past 2 seasons but where do I find that ranking? I can see the players rankings on fantrax for this season but not prior ones.

Is there a list of free agents or is it just the players listed as free agents on fantrax? Just trying to get my team going and figure out who might be available before any trades.

I?ve searched around but didn?t see these answers.

I?ve searched around but didn?t see these answers.

1) Current free agents will be the players on free agency in Fantrax plus anyone that is on the spreadsheet that doesn't have a salary under the 2023 column. If there is a $ amount in the 2023 column that is their salary for that season, a blank cell means a free agent, and an RFA means they will go to restricted free agency where the team has the option to match the winning bid and re-sign the player for that amount. For example on the Sacramento Kings, Patrick Beverley would be a free agent. I should mention that free agents that show up on the spreadsheet can currently be extended by the team that owns their rights so you can extend Patrick Beverley if you wish, trade him and someone else can extend him, or choose to do nothing and at a date to be set later he would be set to enter free agency where everyone can bid on him.

2) In Fantrax to find the rank for the last two years you need to change the "Stats" option to 2021-2022 Regular Season YTD for last years ranking and for 2020-2021 season change the stats option to 2020-2021 Regular Season YTD. If you use those settings and change the "Status/Team" section to Sacramento Kings you should see a "RkOv" column, which has the rank you use for the extension. In 2021-22 it should say Jrue Holiday - 33, Harrison Barnes - 61, Devin Vassell - 62, Patrick Beverley -116. In the 2020-21 rankings it should have Kawhi Leonard - 20, Jrue Holiday - 26, Bradley Beal - 28. Patrick Beverley was #289 in 2020-21. So to extend Patrick Beverley you find his highest rank of 2020-21 & 2021-22, which is the #116 in 2021-22. You then take that ranking to the rules, which show he can be extended for $8m per year. Extensions of $8m per year can be for anywhere from 1 year to 4 years according to the rules. I hope that helps.

Beal & Leonard can be extended if you would like for up to 5 years for each of them.

Jrue Holiday was actually a free agent this year and was already extended for one season (the upcoming 2023 season). Since Jrue Holiday was ranked #26 in 2020-21 and #33 in 21-22 he was extended for one season. As the former manager of the Sacramento Kings as my 2nd team I chose to only extend him for one season as I believe he probably won't rank as high as #26 this season. Next season he can be extended again and the extension price will be based on the highest of #33 rank in 2021-22 and whatever rank he has this upcoming season. So the one season extension makes sense unless you think he will rank #25 or higher this upcoming season.

Beal & Leonard can be extended before February 15, 2023 and the rank is based on the highest rank between the 2020-21 season and the 2021-22 season or they can be extended after February 15, 2023 and the rank is the highest rank at the moment your decide to extend them in the current season (2022-23) vs. the 2021-22 rank. Since both had higher ranks in 2020-21 then 2021-22 you may want to wait until closer to the February 15, 2023 deadline to decide if you want to extend them before the deadline or after the deadline based on where they are ranked at that moment in the 2022-23 season. That's what I would do. If Kawhi starts out slow this season coming back from injury, which is basically always the case with an injury like this, and ends with a worse rank than the #20 overall rank this year it pays to wait to extend him until after the deadline as the highest rank will be based on the 2021-22 season and the 2022-23 season so that #20 overall ranking drops off. Same idea with Beal. You could extend now, but waiting to see where they are closer to the deadline could result in some good salary savings in the future. I hope that makes sense.
