This rule is going to be looked at in the off-season. Unless I am mistaken, the real life NBA does not allow teams to place protections on someone else's draft pick only the original team. I am 90% sure that the only thing that an NBA team can do with someone else's draft pick in a trade is place a swap rights on the pick.
