Braves are taking on some expiring contracts, and giving up some prospects that are a few years away, along with a bench player, in order to receive two projected starters on prospect contracts that fill gaps in the Braves lineup. The dead money is essentially equivalent to giving signing bonuses as it is money which will be recovered in 2022. The Braves have s surplus of cap, but even though free agency for OFs, MIs, and Cs is yet to come, there is a limited pool of players and securing two potential starters in this manner, on team friendly contracts, seems to be a bit more frugal approach.
Mets to confirm.
