RFA Contracts
« on: December 07, 2020, 08:24:45 PM »
I noticed the following players that weredrafted don't have RFA listed after there name on the team pages. But in the contraction salary thread they are listed as RFA after their contracts. Shouldn't these players have the RFA designation?

Patrick Laine - Drafted by Pittsburgh
Neil Pionk - Drafted by Las Vegas
Matthew Tkachuk - Drafted by New York
Zach Werenski - Drafted by Vancouver
Filip Hronek - Drafted by Los Angeles
Alex Debrincat - Drafted by Anaheim
Anthony Beauvillier - Drafted by Toronto
Denis Gurianov - Drafted by San Jose
Adin Hill - Drafted by Boston
Oliver Bjorkstrand - Drafted by Vancouver
Andrew Mangiapane - Drafted by Tampa Bay

I am pretty certain RFA is for players coming off of rookie contracts, that is how I read it anyways. Otherwise our players ie. well, pretty much everyone I drafted will go through RFA either next offseason or 2 offseasons from now and then what? are they RFA once again after that according to this list? This list of players as far as I can see have all resigned in reallife on a second contract after their rooke deals am I wrong? Some are leage min but still a 2nd contract after rookie entry level......

I get RFA's in our league will be guys coming off prospect contracts in the future. But take a look at Vancouvers roster. They have Boeser on a 5.9m deal for the next two years and he is listed as an RFA after that. I have Joel Eriksson Ek at a 1.5m contract and he is an RFA after this year. Montreal has Artturi Lehkonen listed as 2.4m for this year and then an RFA.

So why wouldn't the same thing apply to these players?

Below is the rules for the contraction draft. It says real life contracts are in affect. The salaries in the contraction draft were posted as what they would be and I factored the RFA status of these players in to my draft rankings.

(7) 2020 Contraction Draft
All players from the remaining 15 franchises that go un-chosen will be available in a contraction draft
Real-life contracts are in effect for all players

All players who go un-drafted in the Contraction Draft will enter Free Agency

Note: These picks cannot be traded.

Hm that is a good question I would think guy like Boeser and Eri-Ek wouldnt be RFA for our league probably a miss when setting up rosters I guess. Also I just did double check my guys drafted and all are RFA including Hronek who fell into that weird slide rule for elc in NHL for teenagers in AHL but other like Hill i don't think qualify. As if we go by RFA for any player in NHL who is RFA there would be alot more I would think than the players you list. Would it not be any player under 28 or something like that who nhl team retain their RFA rights for real life unless they sign huge contract like the leafs guys such as Austin and Marner?

I don't have a problem with the guys above not being RFA's at the end of their contracts. I just wanted to point out that guys like Boeser, Eriksson Ek, Buchnevich, Lehkonen, etc. on teams rosters shouldn't be listed as RFA's either. I'm fine with just having players on NHL ELC contracts as RFA's in the league.

 :iatp:

Most likely just a mix-up when inputting initial rosters I think we're on the same page here

:iatp: This is what we are going with it makes the most sense. I think either myself or Westcoast (before he left us) simply got a few of these incorrectly due to how they are listed on hockeybuzz when setting up. I will do an audit as soon as I can and clean up the incorrectly listed RFA guys like those mentioned.
