2 Year (and Beyond) Contracts Waivers Rule Discussion
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:35:52 PM »
This was brought to me by CBJ61. Since we do not allow players that don't have contracts ending this season to be sent down to minors, he suggested that you can put players on waivers that don't have contracts ending this season and they can be claimed by teams. If they are not claimed they return to their respective team.

Thoughts?

Would this be up and down? If players are claimed going up would we still be on the hook for 50% of the contract?

It would only be for players on your major league roster
Example I would like to try and get rid of Crosby, so I place him on waivers but since he has a contract that extends past this season he can't be sent down. So I put him on 24 hour waivers and if someone claims him they take him on. If no one claims him, he stays on my team.

so only for 24 hours and how many times can you put a player on waivers??

so when a team claims the player the team that claimed will take on full contract??

Ya they would take the full contract I think unless everyone else thinks otherwise. It would be 24 hours for sure.

There would have to be a limit of the amount of times probably as well.

I think this is a good idea, and as for a limit on how many times you can place a player on waivers...twice a year? (Once within the first 41 games and once within the last 41 games?) You could go 4 times a year as well, so if they up their fantasy point production, someone may be willing to take a chance the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time around.

Also, if a team was to take a chance and claim a player from waivers, they should take the full hit of the contract. Same that applies if someone was to claim a player I was sending down with a 2011-12 contract. If no one wants to claim the player then he stays on his current team's roster regardless. No harm done!

Any objections? If none then RC could you please vote on the following:

A player can be put on waivers if not in the last year of their contract but can not be sent to the minors. They will go on waivers for 24 hours and if claimed the claiming team takes on the full contract for the player. If unclaimed the player will go back to their respective team at their full contract.
This process can be done 4 times in a season per team

RC please let me know if there is something I should add/remove/edit.

I will agree to this only if it can be done only 2 times per team.

  • Daddy: Honestly idk why the NBA doesn't do it that way for expanding. Two teams at a time. Expansion draft to amateur draft. I think the idea is fresh and its execution will be pretty dope. ;)

  • jimw: I think the NBA goes one team at a time to give the one team a better talent pool in the expansion draft and also to keep the teams from complaining about losing more players

  • Daddy: The expansion teams will then both have 15 players heading into the amateur draft with picks #1 & #2.
  • Daddy: Each other team will still have 14 players and one first round pick.

  • Daddy: They need to hire me is what they need to do
  • Daddy: Yeah you lose a guy to the expansion draft. Likely your 6th man. Then the very next day you draft his replacement and keep it moving.
