Boston - Seattle Trade 8-14-18 5:35 pm ET
« on: August 14, 2018, 06:07:14 PM »
:SEA: sends
MI Downs, Jeter, $0.5m (P-n/a)
OF Jones, Jahmai, $0.5m (P-n/a)

to :BOS: for

CI/MI Dietrich, Derek, $6.5m (2020)
with $5.5m paid in 2018

Dietrich gives Seattle help at multiple positions both this year and in the future, providing depth as we have struggled with injuries.

Please drop OF Holliday, Matt, $7.5m (2018) Cap hit $5.5m ($5.625 rounded down) if trade passes.

This approval is contingent upon Boston making sure there is enough cap space.  Boston currently has a developing salary cap problem.  With two winning bids on the board (equaling at least $6.5m), the Cash Exchange for Dietrich, along with the addition of the (P-n/a)s in this trade (with one open MiLB roster spot), and $5.0m in available cap, some roster moves have to be made to accommodate this trade before it could be processed.

I'm not sure I understand the objection.  This trade actually frees up $1m in payroll, so it is part of the solution, not part of the problem.  Additionally, if this trade goes through before the bidding completes, why would this trade be held up? It is not the trade that is causing the issue here.  I could understand if the bidding hit the 72 hour mark before the trade received the requisite number if votes.

I have ways to make cap work on my bids and if approved I will make corresponding moves to open up roster spots. This trade was and is not contingent on my bids placed on free agents they are seperate transactions.

The contract issue is moot now that the Dodgers have outbid the Red Sox on one of the two bids in which Boston was the leading bid.
