I think Ryan O'Reilly will be a good fit with the Blues and I get a 1st round draft pick for next year. Thanks Vancouver.

Vancouver confirms.

May give up production in short term but hope Nico flourishes down the line.
Move down in be draft next year and pay money on O’Reilly to make the deal happen.

I dunno. I kinda hate this for Toronto. Nico is so young and cost controlled. I feel like the difference of a minor pick upgrade is wholly inadequate.

Ric are you aware of the prospect discount when you go to extend Hischer?  Keep in mind as well our rookie all teams get to keep the 1st round picks of their teams so that buffalo pick at say #10 will be a very borderline nhl 1st round pick , probably more like a 2nd round pick.

Right now this looks like a severe overpay on Toronto's part.  O'reilly is historically a 2.7ftppg guy.  Hischer was 2.56 in his rookie year so not really buying the giving up production. This coupled with a yuge cap difference now and at extension.  Vancouver is still getting a 2nd round pick back with hischer so its not even a 1st round pick straight up.

I will wait to hear back from Ric on the prospect discount and how our draft is setup. If he is fully aware on both those issue I will approve, because I think the other aspects of the ftppg and their current contract is straight forward, but on the surface this looks like a newer gm not being fully aware of values.

Yes I am aware of the prospect discount, I have extended, I have used it when I extended G Philipp Grubauer and RW Nikolaj Ehlers. I felt that C/LW Ryan O'Reilly would play with wingers that would be better and that this would increase his productivity.

I thought that O'Reilly was very expensive that why I asked for cap money to be included in the trade, I think I have over rated the value of a 1st round draft pick because it is the first time I am involved in that kind of draft process.

I need to learn how the league operates, and to do that I have to make moves and I know some will be better than others. I still want to go ahead win the trade, if it is a mistake I will learn from it.

O'Reilly's market value was just recently set - and I don't think Malgin/Madden/Rodrigues are worthy of Nico.  This is a move in the wrong direction for Vegas and as a franchise that's in rebuild I don't feel comfortable putting my stamp of approval on it.

I definitely appreciate and respect the idea of standing behind your trade and I share the same feelings about winning and losing trades.  There is always a winner and always a loser and I dont vote based on who I think won a trade.  But, I cant approve a trade where i feel like one side had an upper hand in the negotiation simply because they know the league setup better.
