When I took over this team, I knew it sucked... And upon being in the league a bit, I realized it really sucks. Other teams have guys getting you 27-30 fanpts/game for hitters, and 70+ fanpts/game for pitchers.... I have none of that.

So figure I'll just strip it down of the old players (already did with some buy-outs) and try to get some young up and comers that hopefully do well in the minors this year, so by next year I'll be a half decent MLB squad.
None of the guys I'm giving up really fit into a long-term plan solution for this team, so I'm happy to pay for them this year in order to get them gone, and pick up some nice youngsters coming back my way.

When I first saw this trade posted, my initial reaction was to cast a veto, but, much to the chagrin of the Rockies GM, I delayed posting my vote so I could evaluate it's overall impact.  That said, after a few PMs with the GMs involved, I arrived at a general understanding of this trade.

There are times when we have to save GMs from themselves.  Trades should be mutually beneficial and that's what I was searching for in my PMs with the Rockies and Blue Jays GMs.  So for what it's worth, here's my take on this trade:

1:  The ~$32.0m Cash Exchange given to the Rockies for the 2018 season is a bit unorthodox, but as was pointed out to me, it means that in 2019, the Blue Jays will have ~$82.0m to spend for free agents.

2:  Although Encarnacion is still a productive player, he is 35 years old and has a $15.5m (2019) contract.  The Blue Jays are getting Greg Bird, who although injured last season, is projected to be the Yankees starting 1B and is on a $0.3m (P-n/a) contract;

3:  King Felix has battled injuries during the past two seasons and is no longer a top tier SP.  Ordozzi is a productive SP, however, the Jays are getting 3 young SPs in Weaver, Marquez and Mengeden, and each shows great promise;

4:  Tapia has great MiLB numbers and seems to be ready to challenge for more playing time in the Rockies OF, even if Cargo re-signs with Colorado;

5:  Toronto is getting rid of some overpriced RPs, and they can easily be replaced.  RPs are in abundance on the free agent wire.

So with all this, I cast an approval.
